Good morning . Just watched a n.cape sunrise on my way to work, and man, what a lovely day this is promising to be. My cuzzie tipped me off last night about a guy selling a mia strat for a real bargain. It has a lot of fretwear on its mapple neck and a few dings, but that doesnt bother me one little bit! The main concern is that the owner disliked the trem bridge, so he glued the thing to the body! I am not a trem player so that shouldnt be too big an issue, but I am concerned that it might be impossible to set up properly. Anybody heard of this being done before and what impact does it have on overall performance and playability? Allready reserved it with a deposit and will only complete payment when I actually see and hold her when I go to Bloem in about a months time. So any advice on what potential problems to look for before then will be most welcome and highly appreciated. Thanx.

Never heard of gluing the bridge itself down, but some guys glue a block of wood in front of the trem block (some behind too). Easy to set back to stock if you want to use the trem. Often they're not even glued in - the springs pull the block forward, which clamps the block against the trem cavity. Then you just loosen the claw, remove the bridge and the blocks come right out.

Thanx Alan. I've also never heard of it being glued down before now, hence the quesy unease that kept me from falling asleep last night! All I have is a few crappy mms photos, but from what I can see you can see some clear glue sticking out along from under the bridge. I'm not easily bothered by cosmetic looks, as long as she plays well. Ditto the fingerwear on the fretboard. Just hope I am not buying a lemon... Its a u.s standard series strat in daphne blue with a maple neck. The s/n makes it a 96/7 model, but it was bought new in 98. It has a fender 50th anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock, but as far as i can tell all the u.s models from this period had one and its not a special run. Anybody have any info on models from this era, eg pick-ups used, neck shape etc. Cant find much info on the net.
