I'm based in Cape Town, west coast, I'm 54, female - from a finger-picking, blues folk background, taught for a bit, then taught myself to read using Frederick Noad's 'Solo Guitar Playing'. Got up to the bit where you have to start learning to read all over again - the fifth position. Haha. SO depressing! Decided to stick with the first 4 positions for now cause there's plenty of music I reckon in the first 4. Haven't got the guts to learn the whole shebang. Want to PLAY now. My sightreading not so hot - just read the piece, learn it and then play it without the sheet music. I would love to do just that with another soul. If there is another philistine like me out there let me know. I know it's shocking what I do - in classical guitar circles - but what the heck. The music is so beautiful, why can't I give my stumbling tribute to it! I'm sure Paco da Lucia had bad days ...

I would love to but I'm in Durban. ☹
sorry to hijack your thread, but I was listening to some Gipsy Kings yesterday, then put on Friday Night in San Fransisco. I kept thinking that I would love to play with people like this, but there are no bass players who are willing to work as hard at it as I am. Bass players I know stick to Billie Jean and think they are awesome.
