Ibanez RX Series

Guys and gals...can anyone give me more info on the Ibanez RX series guitars? Mine is Korean made, a Strat copy with H-S-S and a trem arm that I don't use as it has no locking tuners. I know it's an entry level and one of the cheaper guitars, but where does it rank in terms of quality, etc. Is it in the same class as say, a Squire Strat?

My reason for asking: I'm thinking of upgrading mine, more as a project in trying my hand at some more advanced guitar tech stuff rather than trying to make a Strat out of an Ibanez. I'm actually planning on getting a decent Strat sometime in future. So the Ibanez will become my guinea pig guitar... the one that I try things on before fiddling with more expensive guitars. Does this make sense?

I'm actually quite fond of the guitar, it brings back good memories from the early to mid nineties ... I was a bachelor then, and shared a house with a mate. One day I volunteered to go to town to buy much needed groceries for the house... got back six hours later with the guitar and a very tiny battery operated Marshall amp, and no groceries...

The sound was a massive disappointment. I finally found that if I turned the volume and gain all the way up, and play through some cheap earphones, I got the distorted sound I thought an electric guitar should sound like. Only some months later did I find out that there is such a thing as effect pedals, and that most famous guitarists actually use a bewildering range of equipment in addition to a guitar and amp!

A bit better than Squiers IMO, but not far off. Typical Korean Cort made guitars - decent wood and well built with cheap electronics and hardware. From that viewpoint, they are decent modding guitars, as long as you understand that while you can do some things to radically improve them - notably pickup swaps - you can only take them so far. You also won't get the money you spend on mods back if you sell it - so keep the original parts to swap back in case you ever want to sell it.

Good story! Mine: Late '80s, fresh out the army and single, and shared a house with six others for a whole R70 pm. I worked restaurants and would often spend everything I had (usually in a guitar or CD store - I had NO other expenses), knowing that I would make more that night and the restaurant would give me at least one meal a day. Ahh - the carefree days of youth...

My first guitar was a RX as well. Still have it! Metallic red with white pick-guard. HSH though. Also Korean made. For a realtive cheap guitar it plays surprisingly well! I'll snap some pics. It still has all the originals in, so might swop pu's just for the hell of it (looks like I'm getting the INF1 from my newer Ibanez that I can transplant ?)
