Hi , I was wondering what the quality of Japanese made Gretsch guitars (Duo Jet, 6120 etc.) is compared to their US counterparts. Does anybody here have experience of these? I am aware that they are made in the Fender facilities in Japan.
On paper they appear to be of high quality....?

Excellent value for money. Swap the pickups for the TV Jones of your choice and you are 95% there, IMO.

They're generally as good as anything quality that comes from Japan. The Billy-Bo Jupiter Thunderbird's made there, and commands a 20K+ price tag - and it's a lovely guitar.
