How often do you change jobs?

Well Neps is about to but seems pretty comfortable with it. How many people doing a job just because it is what they got into way back and now there is no way to change? Many years back my reading at university was philosophy and English. Now I am 50 and a SAP basis guy for some while. I worked in a bank IT dept for 20 years. then a consultancy for two months, then an outsourcing company for 18 months and currently with one of the biggest IT companies in the world for 15 months and I gotta move, I cant stay here nomore. I spend a lot of time wondering how the hell things pan out the way they do. I mean hell, apart from the money I can think of no reason to be doing what I'm doing. And then to make all sorts of changes of environment while you are doing what you dont dig makes you wonder even more. Maybe I wonder too much.

I wish I was a bit more stable.. But boredom does get the best of me. This is hell on my parents though.. Whenever I tell my dad 'umm, I'm resigning again' he just goes dead quiet over the phone. Then I have to explain to him 'yes, I have other work', 'no, I'm not being too compulsive', 'yes, I can pay my bills', 'yes, there might be a women involved' The last answer does quiet him down cause he just wishes that his son can settle, get married and give him grand kids. Although, that last answer is mostly a lie. ?

The thing about being in the sound side of things is that there is so much to experience, and there isn't a defined career ladder. I know guys who've run their own small studios for 25 years. I know others who are now Executive Producers for TV show. I know some sound guys who turned out to be good chefs. So who know.. Maybe I'll end up with my dream job one day.. Owner of a beach bar in Bali!!
