Recording delay

Hey guys i have serious varsity business and i have to record some but i have some mad delay on my soundcard. I really need to try counter this even if it is just a little. I am running an Asus Xonar d2x.

What recording software and what drivers is it using for the Asus? Smaller buffer sizes or fewer buffers will reduce the latency, but at the expense of processing power. So try reducing number of buffers and buffer sizes in the driver until it starts stuttering or clicking on record or playback.

I see Asus make a big production about solving compatibility problems with Direct X for gaming in Vista, but they don't say anything about the latency - which is one of the primary concerns for recording. So if you don't come right with the standard driver, see if there is an ASIO driver for it or try use ASIO4All.

Should I be changing this in Reaper?

the xonars strong point is output sound , recording has mad latency and terrible recording sound aswell . asus reckon latency issues will be sorted out in later driver version but for now you xtuck with a rubbish recording card

Well I just have to make something work by Tuesday. Seems I am getting it more or less under control.

Strengthening my case for sticking with audio cards made by audio companies, not computer hardware companies - priorities are different.
