Best compressor

Opinions please on which is the best compressor pedal and why.

Choose between: -

BOSS CS3

Trex Comp nova

Keeley 2 pot.

I'll say not the Boss (unless it's a modded version). The T-Rex and the Keeley are both great and I'd say you can't go wrong with either, it's down to your preference. I'd also say look at the Analogman comp or if you like obvious compression, the Janglebox.

Thaks Alan,

I had sort of eliminated the Boss on all but price.

I felt it took too much of the guitar tone away when using it.

I heard someone playing through the Trex on Monday night, and it sounded really good.

On the Keeley however I have only read reports, and that can be misleading; however all the reports gave 10/10 for the Keeley, and if it is up to Robert Keeley's usual standard it should be the Dog's danglers.

I'll keep you posted

I have a Keeley Compressor circuit, It's not one on the outside but is on the inside. It's a killer pedal.
I have A/Bd with a Keeley, and there is not really a difference... which IMO is the best compressor there is, It is pricey tho.

I enjoy my compressor but only when I crank the volume... I believe I can actualy feel it in my hands when I put it on and crank the volume. mmmm my ears are hearing the lush now :-[

Let us know what you decide!

Thanks Brentcgp,

I am leaning toward the Keeley, as my mate Caleb says it's the dog's b@!!@c%s compared to anyting else.

I can't find the distributor here, so I may bring one in from the States.

I'll let you have my "review"when it arrives.

My Keeley arrived today.

On first play it sounds great - no loss of tone from my Les Paul or Strat.

It just gives that lovely sustain that Iwas looking for.

Pity they dont have a distributor here in S.A.

Maybe I will get the agency??

I've read good things about the Guyatone ST-2, but haven't had the chance to test one yet. Might be worth checking out since it's less than half the price of the keeley.

Just got back from a trip to the States with Caleb.

He sends his regards to everyone he chatted to here and is back in England.

I picked up an old mark 1 Hughes and Kettner tubeman for an incredible US95 in tip top condition.

Sounds like a dream - cant beat that valve overdrive sound in my opinion, and the Mk 1 sounds better than the newer models.s

A case of being "damaged by improvements".
