some clarification on the pedigree of my pawn shop nylon string

i posted a while back i picked up an awesome sounding .....but somewhat battered looking yamaha nylon G120 at a pawn shop for R600 and have been amazed at the tone on this instrument .......

i finally managed through yamaha to get some clarification on the G120 ........ seems it was only built from 1967 - 1974 i have a 1972 model cos the G120 has an i behind it (G120 i) which yamaha use to denote the year... i = a 2 year so 72 model making it now 37 yrs old

also they sent me the specs mahogany back and sides ..... mahogany neck .......... rosewood fingerboard and bridge....... and a 658 mm scale length ........

and a pine top ........... which puzzled me for a while till i went to classical guitar forum and read this........

anyway they also sent me an "original recommended selling price from the period it was in production of $142.50 so in 1972 that was quite an expensive guitar it seems???? since in about 1982 i bought a brand new USA strat for about R1000 at the time ......... so i'm imagining $142 dollars after the conversion is quite steep...... any financial wizz's know what the rand value woulda been taking into account the inflation rate ect ect .........

anyway i'm glad to report that after new strings and a setup .... i have successfully used it (mic'd up) at my gigs for last 9 shows and once in the studio at a session .......... and it sounds awesome...........

a more softer mature sound than my APX ....... and far superior to the G228 i have also just bought(same pawn shop also for a steal... which i dated as a 1982 - 1985 model ) but will be passing onto a student .... the G228 is suprisingly loud acoustically .... but lacks the subtle tone of the G120

so i guess i have been lucky and found a great tone instrument ..........

but least now i know it's pedigree

hehehh yeah Aja pop into zahava's on 30 th and hear it in action..... you been there before ... ussual lunch gig....

oh meant to ask you aja ... any developments on that battery amp saga we were discussing when you last came to my gig ....did you get to do some thinking on a design??? especially the idea of using the tube to hold the speaker?????

In the same way we are chimps, yes. ? Related but not the same thing. Spruce is Pinaceae Picea, while pine is Pinaceae Pinus (and if you're interested, chimps are Hominidae Pan and humans are Hominidae Homo).

They're related, in the same genus of trees. There are over 30 different spruces, so the explanation you refer to is simplistic.
