The Goth Flying V

A friend contacted me about this flying V.

There is aluminium floor plating stuck on with double sided tape. I hope when I take it off it doesnt pull the logo off the headstock. That would be a real bummer. But I am going to get this back to the original goth state so I can have myself a nice matt finished flying V for cheap...

any advice on how to get that plating off and info on the finish is most welcome.

It looks horrible with the metal plating on it. No idea why anyone would want to do that to a stunning looking guitar ??? The mat black finish is awesome IMO... I have the Goth Les Paul, and absolutely love it.

I dunno what effect the dbl sided tape will have on the matte finish, but the back of the neck becomes gloss black over time. ?.

Are you thinking of a pickup replacement at all and if so, what are you looking at? I'm in the process of "re-doing" mine. The nut, knobs etc. Also, the strings seems to be eating into the wood where they come out of the guitar to go over the bridge, so I'm looking at removing the "V" plastic plate and putting in ferrules.

I'l leave the pups for now. I think they are the Alcino Classics which are ok. Maybe later I'll think of something else. Not sure what for now.

The EMG's are too heavy for what I play. but they certainly finish off the guitar's gothic look nicely.

The EMG-HZ's are fine for anything IMHO. The neck pickup especially with just a touch of chorus...blues supreme. I recently tuned it down to a C and man o man...WOW...

Post some pics when you have done your thing with it.

Well, I've taken the tread plate off and put a new nut on.

the intonation is out at the 2nd fret. Obviously the nut is now too big. I'm still waiting for the graphtec so I'm not too phased. I just want to get the intonation right so I can hear it to find out what electrical work needs to be done.

The finish has been damaged slightly, probably more by the removal of the tape. I'm not sure wether to fix it, leave it as is or polish it up.

Ah, looking better already... Glad to see the "V" plate on yours line up better with the holes than on my V. I thought of removing mine and putting in ferrules

I'm really thinking of getting the Graphtec Supercharger kit to replace the current bridge and nut. That and other smaller upgrades

that supercharger kit looks like a winner. I'm sure someone here may have used one. I'm just going to do the nut for now. I'll also replace the nut on my Les paul as well.

does anyone have ideas on the finish? I want to keep it all black and stick with the goth theme, but I'm not sure wether to keep it matte black or not?

I saw one like yours in a case going for R6000 in Cape Town. Ebay has them for around $300-400 without the case. It's up to you really, but I wold price them in the same region as an Epi Les Paul, but higher than the LP 100 or LP studio.

I have the exact same guitar:

I got it for R2000 in 2006 at Paul Bothner in Claremont. It was the last model on sale and nobody wanted it. So they gave it to me at 50% discount. Got a case for it as well at Musicmate in George for R750. So it came as quite a shock when i read this thread and I saw it being advertised for R6000. And to think I was going to sell it for R3000. Not anymore! ? ?

Haha boet some freeking awsome guy from this forum phoned me up and told me about epiphone and all that and how these guys have become quite valuable. I was selling mine for R1800, in perfect nic with case and stand.

Well I was chatting to a guy who has a music shop in Durban north and he said that for epiphone to bring their products into the country they must have an order of no less than $400000.

Marshall Cape Town recently brought some Gibsons in (from somewhere in Europe I think). I don't know if they got any Epis too, but might be worth trying them to find out.
