Fender Pro185, any good???

Hey guys.

So I posted a little while back. I'm in the market for a new amp. I had my heart set on a tube amp but couldn't find one within my price range (about 5k). Was looking at the Peavey Classic 30 but I've heard some bad things about it, more the reliability and what not. So I'm weary about that.

I went to see a guy (Johan Meiring) today and he showed me a Fender Pro185, which he swears by. Only swapped it cause he got a Heritage. Now its solid state, it sounded great and immulates the tube sound very nicely. Could have just been his playing though haha.

But has anybody got one? Or tried one out? What are your thoughts?

Why not look at the Laney VC15 (I think that is the model number)

Anyway, it is a two channel 15W all tube amp that goes for just less than your budget. I was really impressed by it. It was really the only other amp I was considering other than the Blackstar. But 5W is enough for me for now...

Or do you want to go for a 165W Fender amp that can't take external cabinets and weighs a ton?

Or consider the Blackstar - You have PM by the way ?

Well it seems I'm in between The Blackstar and the Laney. Which one in your guys opinion is the better one?

I have a VC-15. It's a great little amp, It's not what I want ideally... But if you knew me... You would understand ?

I DO however recommend the Laney VC-15 on its price, nothing comes close. That's the reason I own one ?
The OD channel to my ears is.... ok (I never use it)
But I have a TS808HW for my drive, So I would never use it. It takes pedals SO SO SO well, another big +1.
It's tough as nails to.

It's growing on me and the longer I have it, the more I am realsing I can wait a while before I spend R25k+ on a Swart AST and a Dr Z amp.

All I can recommend is go play both with your guitar... No matter what ANYONE says is better. You must decide what YOU like ?

No I'm not really going to playing with a drummer anytime soon. Its more for practise and playing with friends (who play guitar as well). I thought to myself that once I start working (still a student therefore broke lol), then I'll save for a bigger amp.

I've decided on the Blackstar, mainly because, IMO, its more versatile. Even though I prefer playing blues/rock I do enjoy the odd metal song which is easier to get on the HT-5. I've played on both and my guitar sounds better on the Blackstar (an Ibanez, will be working on getting a better guitar at a later stage). That and I can get the Blackstar at R4750.

So I got the Blackstar and its awesome, a geniunely nice amp. I'm glad I got it. ?
