Sound Card suggestions?

Hi Guys

I have been having some problems with recording on Cubase & have narrowed it down to the fact I only have an on-board sound card...

I am now looking for a budget sound card that will handle recording in Cubase.

Any suggestions?

The ESI cards are good for the price but they also have a budget range called Audiotrak, which seem great for the money. Then of course there is Behringer who always have items in the lower budget ranges.

The problem I was having was when I record a guitar track over drums the playback is out of synch. AJbryson checked rekons its a sound card issue...

I have just bought a squires Tele so I am short of cash to buy something fancy?

Alan do you have any specific models in the Behringer range?

That's unlikely to make a difference - the CMI chipset is one of the ones used for onboard sound, so it's not going to be an improvement over what you have already.

The Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 is their entry level (about R700 retail IINM) - no mic preamps, but that's not a problem for recording direct or if you have a mixer. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx

the uca 202 is a good choice , i haven't seen one bad review for it on the internet , i personally as you know have been looking at it that or the uca 222 which is the newer one . and the specs on the card is very good .

How does the U-CONTROL UCA202 work?
I see it has RCA connectors, would you use a mixing desk/ or Amp to send the guitar signal through?
It actually looks quite good, can do a bit more than the ucg102 guitar only controller.

You would either plug the uca into your mixer (tape in / out ) channels which is normally RCA or you would use the line out of your guitar amp / pedal into uca line in via a jack to rca converter available at any audio video store

C-Media chipset. To quote Monty Python: "Run away! Run away!". It's also safe to assume that anything that boasts "Karaoke functionality" is something you should steer clear of. Stick with established musical electronics brands (even Behringer) and you're far better off.
