Hi Gents
Anyone out there have any idea why my Traynor YCV40T (2x 10) sounds absolutely great during our first set of songs - lovely tones on both channels - BUT, during the second set, the tone turns really brittle and 'tinny' ? By the time we play our last few songs it really is quite harsh on the ears. I play a USA Strat mainly, which does make for quite a 'trebley' combination, but this is easily controlled by turning down the treble on the EQs of the amp and I use exactly the same setting all the way through - but it's like I end up playing a totally different amp at the end of the night from the one I started out with.
Could it be the valves becoming too hot after being played through for an hour or so ?
I've tried replacing the valves (2 x 6L6GCs) and even changed the pre amp valves too (3 x 12AX7s) but the problem still persists.
It's such a shame as I love the tones I get from this amp (until half way through the gig anyway) but I now only use this amp as a back up because of this problem.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum.
Man, it is a little hard to make any kind of assessment without a bit more info. Does the amp get noisy/hum/crackle at all when it gets brighter? Does it gradually just get brighter over the course of an hour or is their an immediate change? I've experienced 'bright' amps if the line voltage is quite high, causing the valves to run hot... Traynor have a service guide on their site for your amp and it has a schematic with reference voltages as well as a few 'mod' fixes that they added, seems low voltage was an issue in some case along with fixing issues with the reverb units in earlier models.
I'd suggest you take the amp to a local tech to look at.... you don't want to go around probing in an HV amp if you have little to no experience with electronics.
Cheers
Matt

Thanks matta.
Seems like I'll have to have the amp checked out by a tech, no-one I've spoken to has had a similar problem and, beyond changing the tubes, my knowledge is pretty limited.
Just for info - the change in tone does seem to happen suddenly rather than over a period of time, with no prior crackles/hums or hisses. I'll check out the service guide on the Traynor website as you suggested first though.
Thanks again !

It also might be....and I'm clutching at straws here.......a faulty cap in the signal path that starts breaking down after a period of time as it heats up.
Definitely get the amp in to a tech to check out.

Ok - I'll mention this when i take the amp in to be looked at - cheers mate.
