That's why I like Strats and Teles they have an unmistaken distinctive, beautiful, clean sound which is recognizable
over the radio! Which can't be said for the Gibby! Gibsons are overrated, overpriced, overweight,
headstocks,overprone of breaking,(seen a few break off, hitting the floor when the strap comes loose!),then,
what do you do, you strip the parts and throw the body in the dustbin!When this happens wih a Fender, (which is veeeery unlikely), you simply replace the neck!
When people start to think, Gibson USA will take a great knock!

Easy does it gramps.

Gibson has, in fact, lost the trademark on "Les Paul" in at least one country (Finland) and has also lost lawsuits against other manufacturers (PRS) where it charged "theft of the Les Paul shape."

Plenty guitarists now use "Les Paul" to either refer to Gibson Les Pauls, or to Les Paul type guitars in general (of which there are many).

Rocker Gramps, you may be surprised to realise that the first person to get upset so far has been you.

When someone makes an inflammatory statement out of the gate on a forum it's considered fair game to give them a hard time about it. EZ wasn't upset. He was teasing you.

I'd get much the same reaction if I said, "Fenders are just a woodwork project thrown together with leftovers IMHO." The IMHO doesn't change the baldness of the statement. So I'd catch hell for it. But the kind of hell you're catching is actually good natured, believe it or not.

Gramps, you based your opinion on testing one 335, one epi and an ibanez. That's a rather small sample size for such a blanket statement.That is without considering guitar setup, amp used, style of music you were going for. Then you indirectly accuse Gibson owners of not thinking, by saying Gibson will start losing sales when people start thinking. The comment about Les Paul owners using pedals to alter the fundamental tone is just stupid. Most pedals alter your tone, no matter wat guitar you use. Just about any guitar into some kind of obscenely gainy pedal will be indistinguishable from another. You do get effects that alter the tone in a very subtle way to still let the guitar's tone come through. Then you assume that saying IMHO will justify these comments. Everyone has the right to an opinion, but whether it should be shared is whole different debate.

Not sure what you're getting at.

You: Les Paul can NEVER be "non-Gibson"
Me: Les Paul is very much "non-Gibson" in many cases, even legally in some countries

Just one example that, well, you're wrong. Can't make it any clearer than that.

If you had to say "I have a beautiful Les Paul", the first thing I'd ask would be something like, "A Gibson?" And that's not an unreasonable question given the use of the "Les Paul" term to describe guitars outside of the Gibson stable.

PS: it takes more than a Les Paul (Gibson or otherwise) to leave me in awe, but that's another discussion. ?

Must say I had a few good laughs while reading this discussion...not because I think Gramps is stupid or anything like that, but rather 'cause he's so overly convinced of his judgement and opinion..... ?
Also I've never played any Ibanez, so I can't really comment on his comparison..... I have played a few Gibsons though......and I'm veeery happy with them :?
