I cleared stuff today at customs....let me give you one little example.
I paid 30% import duty today on Tokai Gig Bags.
Now take that 30%, add it onto the cost of the gig bag, now add 14%...not much room left for me to make a profit.
And remember, when you buy a guitar in a store the gig bag comes for free with the guitar, even though it doesn't come with the guitar from the manufacturer...it's paid for separately.
Hi Tokai, I am all for any business to make a profit. Hell, that's why people are in business. If you read carefully through all my posts, I am actually not the one complaining, I really don't give a "rats behind" what the stuff sells for in SA, if I like it, and I have the money, I buy it, or save until I can buy it. I think we were merely debating where the "problem" lies, for those who have got a problem with what Gibsons were selling for, especially in SA! I think you should read carefully who the complainants are!
And with all due respect, I have also never had the impression that if I buy a guitar, I get the case (or the gig bag) for free. Nothing is for free. I buy a guitar, they give it to me in a case, with a strap, and a few basic tools......I am paying for it. How it comes from the manufacturer has got nothing to do with me, the end-buyer. Gibson, Fender, PRS and other manufacturers sell their stuff WITH a case or a gig bag.......they tell you that in their advertising, I have never seen them saying: "Case or Gig Bag, optional extra!".
