Recording demos

CDee

Friends of mine "Errand is Blomme" (afrikaans band) are looking to record a demo.
What studios are out there that can produce a decent demo? They are in the Vaal Triangle but jhb and possibly pta will be fine.
?

PS. If someone is interested I can put up a recording of one of their songs. They recorded it themselves so it's not perfect, but you can at least get an idea of what they sound like.

Let's hear it ?

There are lots, CDee. Many pretty decent studios will take in bands doing this kind of thing for around R2000 a day, but there are bargains to be had here and there. Have a look on Gumtree - some places even offer to do it for just about nothing. Although then you pretty much get what you pay for. If the band have their material worked up pretty tightly, a full day's recording can probably see to a reasonable demo of about three songs to avoid breaking the budget. The real thing to do after that is find someone who'll do a good job of mixing it for a reasonable price.

@ Squonk - Here's the link then... http://www.box.net/shared/9ammn36m36

There is something there, A proper demo will do them justice.
The drums have A Ringo Starr influence, so sometimes sounds Beatlish.

What does "Errand is Blomme" mean?

Not sure what the entire meaning is but errand is as in english "running an errand" (or it's someone's name) and 'blomme' are flowers.
A direct translation would be "Errand are flowers" (Sounds weird in English ?)

Check out gumtree, there's usually a million demo studio's advertising there.

Check out Moonlight Studios...........I wouldn't suggest B# Studio, that guy is expensive and his "pro" full albums sound like demo's only.

Where did the band record that one song, wouldn't that basically be a demo?

I've checked on Gumtree, there is only 1 guy advertising there in the Gauteng area. I already gave his number to the band.
The recording was made in the guitarist own home/project studio, so not really up to standards.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to check out Moonlight Studios.

Like Stratisfear said, you should get them to find someone who can then mix the recording properly for a good price.......p.m me if they're interested in thatt,I'll do it for half what anyone one else will do it for, and do it twice as good 8)

CDee

@majestick - Mixing is very important. Would you be able to mix their own recordings (the one in the link) as a promo of your talents? (I think he used Cubase and should still have the project)

majestikc

No problem, I'd enjoy that, will obviously do it for free as well as it would be a demo for me then as well.

P.M me with details etc

CDee

Thanks Majestick! That's awesome. I'll send you a PM. ? ?
