I've started thinking about the guitar that I would like to buy next and I'm stuck between getting a Dean V or getting parts from Warmoth and making an ash Telecaster.
Dean would be a bit cheaper (by about R2000-R3000), but I assume that the tele would be better quality.
Any thoughts on which would suit my needs and style (metal, blues, reggae) better?

Completely different animals - the Dean is more of a metal machine, while Teles generally lean more to blues, country and lighter styles of rock, and yes, even reggae. ? No hard and fast rules though as it's more what you play than what you play it on. I suppose you should look at what you already have, see where the gaps are and decide what fills that gap best.

I am biased so i say tele

Grab a Tele, mod it senseless and do the John 5 thing...

ASH TELE...... ? ?.....Versatile guitar...like Alan said....
AlanRatcliffe
Oh.. yeah... BTW - I'll always go USA Custom Guitars over Warmoth. Especially for the neck.

I'll throw my bias in and say get the Dean 8) But I really can't imagine somebody playing reggae or blues on a Dean V

Well, zz top have played dean Zs and albert king played a flying v so i could get away with blues but i suppose reggae would be cutting it fine. so it seems like an ash tele with additional series switching is my best bet. i just need to save up more. how much more expensive is usacg?
MikeM
All I know is there are some special "web deals" there - maybe e-mail and ask?
AlanRatcliffe
$5 on a body more expensive, $50 on a neck, but wood quality is generally higher and they don't charge you extra for most options like common neck profiles, LSR nut, straight radius, etc., so I've found they often work out cheaper by the time you add up the options. Some things you can only get from one or the other though.
MikeM
And they dress the neck very well compared to Warmoth I've heard (HCEG)

ja, warmoth has 3 different neck construction types and offers scalloping, but I only need one construction type and I don't need scalloping so i'll get the neck and probably the body from usacg and the other parts from warmoth/stewmac/somewhere else. but first, i need money. about R6000-R7000
