Has anyone heard of there guitars. I bought one on Thursday and the sound is amazing. Well i was at the shop i played with a bc Rich(R10 000) and gibson(R13 000). I saw this j&d Brothers guitar for R4000 and played it. The sound was so much better than the gibson and bc rich for less than half the price of other guitars. so i bought the j&d brothers

Nice! Amazing price - even if you have to change pickups (although it sounds like you are happy) and get a pro setup, or even a fret dress, you'd still have what looks like a great Les Paul for a lot less than you'd pay for a Gibson. It won't hold value as well as a Gibson, but at that price, it really doesen't matter.

Just realized now that the guitar is a Les Paul Custom Clone. I bought it at Mercury Music in Edenvale http://www.mercurymusiconline.co.za/
The Tag price was R4000 but i got a R1000 Discount.

How much am i looking at for a full setup including Fret dress? I'm not going to change the pickups now. I'm still using a 10w practice amp. So weather i change it or not the sound will still be the same.

What cleaning equipment should i be using to clean/wipe this guitar/strings. After a few seconds of playing my hands start sweating, so there will always be sweat on the guitar.

Yup. Quite a close copy too. I would say they are treading dangerously close with the headstock shape, which is one thing Gibson does sue for.

Don't consider it unless you find a problem that needs sorting out. What I was trying to say was that even if it turns out to need some work to make it playable, it's still an amazingly good price. That doesn't mean it will actually need work.

A clean soft cloth is fine for a new guitar and for strings. While you can get all kinds of products to clean a guitar, the fact of the matter is if you just keep it clean by giving it a quick wipe down after you play, you'll rarely need anything else.

Hey Gerald nice guitar! This particular style of LP with the gold hardware on black is truly beautiful. I too have been looking at this style of LP copy but did not know about J&D Brothers. I've been following a few LP copies on EBay lately, it seems you got a nice guitar for a great price.

Yea i got a great deal? I love this guitar(sound and looks) I will get a new pickups later on but first need a new amp, to really test my baby. One thing i realized if you pick an open string but hard i here this rattling sound. I cant here where its coming from. Any ideas.

There's a lot of things that can cause a buzz or rattle when playing hard. If it's only on the open note, it's probably something to do with the nut - either it's a touch too low on one or more of the strings or the slot(s) aren't cut with enough back angle, so the string is buzzing in the front of the slot. The latter can also throw out the intonation.

When in doubt, get it checked out by the shop - it's still under warrantee, so if it needs a pro to sort it out, it's at their expense ?

For those that are interested, there's an Ibanez Les Paul Custom 1976 model on Cape Gum Tree, for R4000. May be worth checking out. Sadly, I'm not in the market at present... :'( My recent building project have set me back significantly... ?

I'm unable to post any sounds at the moment. Still using a 10w practice amp with built in distortion, Don't have any distortion/overdrive pedals. When i can afford new equipment then I'll post to my hearts desire.

One thing i realized with the j&d is the frets arnt really so nice. If you rub your hand on the top and bottom of the neck you can feel the frets sharp edges. I want to get the guitar re fretted. I love the sound of the guitar. Before going to mercury music phone then and ask if they have the guitar in stock. I was suppose to go and test/buy this ibanez (RG350DX)http://www.mercurymusiconline.co.za/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_45&products_id=123
But when i got to the store they said i have to order the guitar. I like playing before buying. Then i saw the j&d and loved this guitar. The service is pretty good. They know there instruments. See if you can get discount. There markup on there products is 63%
