Squier pickguard

Anybody got a black squier pickguard lying around , and will a standard fender pickguard fit .........

A Fender or any other replacement pickguard should fit, but the screw holes will likely differ a bit (they often do even on the US stuff). Very easy to tap new holes though, and the pickguard covers the old ones. Only thing you have to watch out for are the ones which are close, but not quite - if you use them, your screws may be pulled sideways and/or the pickguard will be skew, sometimes pulling polepieces out of alignment. Those, you just dowel first before tapping the new one.

the easiest way to dowel that is with a match... just jam it in the hole and break it off.

It is, but not advisable when the new hole is very close or overlapping the old - then sometimes the screw will still pull into the old hole. The best way to do it is to drill out the old hole to get rid of the taper and clean it up, and then tap in a proper dowel of the right diameter with some cold glue to fix it in place and fill any voids.
