Calling all giging SA metal bands !

With the prices as they are in SA, please tell us what amp(s) you use, to get your metal tone ! Not everyone in this country can drop the coin for a Mesa Trip Recto half stack. So what do you use ? Are you happy with your sound ? What 'type' of metal do your band play ? Any Utoob clipz or MySpace pages so we can hear what you sound like ? All info very welcome . . .

Yeah I've heard a few music store dudes give the Thermion a bad name.

I just think they just weren't sure how to use it. Because I know of a few people that can get great tone from it.
It's voicing is slightly scooped so it's sorta like a cheaper dual rec (also seeing that the Thermion cab has V30's like the rectifier cab).
But it's a bit unreliable when it comes to fuses blowing at venues with unstable power supplies.

The picture is a bit outdated though got a new guitar and other things added since then.

For metal I had no problems.

I still stand behind my staement that KRANK amps make some of the best "dedicated" metal tone monsters of all the 'other' brands out there !

Randall is pretty good too, but i will take an FJA hot rodded Krankenstein+, over a lot of other brands and models out there in amp-land !

What model do you have ?

It's the Rev1 but the earlier model not the new ones.
In my opinion better than the Stein.

The same Rig minus the guitar was used to Reamp the guitars on "As I lay Dying - Shadows are Security" album. Not my type of music but good production.

I would just replace the tubes, but getting hold of JJ's can be a bit of a tricky situation. Music stores in CT are useless.

I don't have any clips online, just a few albums, EP's I've re amped the guitars with.

I believe there is a bloke in Jo'Burg that can get you pretty much all the JJ valves that is on the market today !

hey dean... if you are looking for JJ's give Karel Mars a PM, he's in paarl and can get JJ's for you if you like, but i warn u they don't come cheap. he got my JJ for my tonebone.

i heard those REV Jr and they are pretty cool. and the fact that they are are only 20 watts is a bonus cause you can really drive it hard and get better valve breakup. but the bummer is that they only had the single channel, i would've bought it if it was a dual channel, they were also pretty cheap and the guys are pretty neg. with the price. i think the head was selling for R7000 or so. just buy the head and get another cab cause the Rev Jr's cab is loaded with a budget spkr. the gain on that little head was pretty big and solid.

those are the pro series.... the one i saw was a plain Rev Jr..... which was a single channel.

I couldn't get the rev JR to sound anything like mine but I did only have a couple minutes to mess with it.

The speakers in the REV jr cab aren't for me though.

I rate the Thermion very highly. Solidly built.. especially with that toroidal transformer. Sound wise, very round and big and close to a Mesa (no surprise seen as the tube config is the same, but who knows how the tone stack differs)

If I had to go back to a head I'd use this in a heartbeat. Even sounds better to my ears than my 5150 block letter.
