What I want to know is if female guitarists assign their instruments a gender. A lot of males refer to their guitars (also cars and, for all I know, golf clubs) in the feminine: "She's sounding even better since I put that Duncan pickup in the back." "I just restrung her." "Here's a photo of my ladies" (and then he pulls out a picture of a whole bunch of Strats and Les Pauls). Occasionally even pickups, stomp boxes or other equipment will be referred to as feminine objects ("I turned her gain all the way up to patent pending, bru")
Do those guitarists who are from Venus rather than Mars refer to their instruments (or cars, or golf clubs) as "he","him","my boys", "my gents", "my men", "my homeboys", "my little laddies" etc etc?
urm ... not sure if i should say this....... and break the fantasy for many but almost all and i stress ALMOST ALL the girl guitarist i know who play seriously, and don't only use guitar to accompany their voice(cos remember there is a distinction between the two... the accompanyist and the serious guitarist ) but most of em would due to their sexual persuasion call their guitar "her" and not Him .... hehhehhe
if you were at Jonathan's open mic last week we had 3 female guitarists perform ... all good guitarists and serious pro original musicians in jhb scene and all " bat for the other team"
it may not be a rule and i would never say all female guitarists are ............. but i know this to be true of many of the pro guitarists in Jhb and the world in fact ....
and as a tutor i have never heard any female student call her guitar in the "male" gender..... maybe they like ships just always assumed to be in the female....
peace and light
