Girl Guitarists?

So I was thinking, why does it seem like guitar playing is a mainly male affair? It's not like girls can't do it, yet you hardly ever see/hear of a girl guit...

I'd never be jealous of a female guitarist (Well maybe if she had killer technique)

The reality is that the sight of a female guitarist to most guys can be quite mesmorizing, also I think its safe to say there are more male guitarists than females, therfore the ratio of brilliant guitarists between male and female is rather large. So my point is that an above average female guitarist might gain the attention of some rare exotic bird, whereas the male guitarist (of the same caliber) will just be seen as another pigeon crapping on your car.

There are too few female guitarists in the world, thats why I root them on 100%. An all male enviroment is rather boring hey? ?

But as Gearhead said, I won't judge a female guitarist as different from a male - both have 2 hands with 5 fingers on each. It's just that females should be recognized more for the playing ability than their presence. A prime example is the female shredder "Great Kat", put in the top 10 shredders of all time. I have seen dozens of guitarists, and I'm sure there are 1000's more I haven't seen who could send her packing.

Oh by the way Keira. It is called "Top 100 guitar shredders of all time", it might seem boring to watch for you, but the judging criteria is based primarily on speed, accuracy & technical difficulty, stage presence, or in KAt's case making a complete ass of yourself, doesn't earn you extra points.

Now I don't want to be nasty Keira, but don't you think your post was the most sexist of all?

I think this topic just went south...

Back to Tal Wilkenfeld. She did something that I never did, she picked her instrument and stuck to it. She also knew what she wanted to do.

Now I know there are many professionals who have done that, but she is a story in our current time and she can really groove. I'd like to see her play with Victor Wootin or Steve Bailey...

Oh, the young don't even know what real corruption is yet.

If there's something I've learned in my short life (I'm 25 but I learn fast) it's that women and older (er, I mean "experienced") people are WAY naughtier than us young people give them credit for. We think we're naughty but we're just vulgar, tactless and loud. Learn to listen around them and be prepared for a fantastic re-education ?

Many years ago I read a biog of The Stones. There was a hilarious tale of how at some point in the 60s the Conservative Party decided to woo Mick Jagger in an effort to make the party look young and hip. In those days the Tories were mostly old and very well monied, and Jagger was not opposed to the idea of at least being wined and dined in posh mansions. So off the Stones go to some very posh country estate for some banquet with lots of very old, very wealthy types. And after a couple of courses they start trying to figure out how they can dissappear for a few moments to have a little something or other before returning to the festivities. They started mumbling some excuse only to be taken aside by the hostess who informed them that since they were new to this kind of affair in these kinds of circles they probably didn't know but the cocaine is always in the salt cellars.

What I want to know is if female guitarists assign their instruments a gender. A lot of males refer to their guitars (also cars and, for all I know, golf clubs) in the feminine: "She's sounding even better since I put that Duncan pickup in the back." "I just restrung her." "Here's a photo of my ladies" (and then he pulls out a picture of a whole bunch of Strats and Les Pauls). Occasionally even pickups, stomp boxes or other equipment will be referred to as feminine objects ("I turned her gain all the way up to patent pending, bru")

Do those guitarists who are from Venus rather than Mars refer to their instruments (or cars, or golf clubs) as "he","him","my boys", "my gents", "my men", "my homeboys", "my little laddies" etc etc?
