Hi guys,
I need some help. My dad has (had?) this 1962 Aria A-680 Dreadnought since well, 1962 (He was ten when he bought it). So me and a couple of mates go to Mozambique and I drag it along to play some campfire tunes. All goes well untill on the way back I don't close the bakkie's canopy properly and the guitar goes flying all over the road. As far as I can tell (I'm not very experienced though) the damage to the body(?) is only cosmetic but the neck is in 3 pieces.
I know its probably not the most expensive or best guitar in the world but as you can surely understand it does have a certain sentimental value to my old man. Any suggestions as to where I can take it to be repaired and more or less what it will cost?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Where you take it will depend on where you are. If you're in CTown, take it to Foster van der Merwe. Joburg or anywhere else, you'll have to ask the Jobuggers here for a "who". Price, no-one is going to give you a quote until they see it - there are lots of factors that affect how difficult a repair it will be.
The good news is it's more than likely repairable - I fixed worse in my day. If worst comes to the worst, the neck can even be replaced.

Thanks Alan,
What a relief, I looked at it and thought it's music making days are over.
I'm in Pretoria, a guy at my local music store recommended that I phone someone called Grant Fouche situated in Krugersdorp. Has anyone ever heard of him or had work done by him?
Thanks

Hi christiaan,
man o man, I feel your pain. Even if the guitar is worth R20 the sentimental value of a guitar from 1962 is priceless!
Hope you get the guitar fixed!

Since you are in Pretoria, take it upstairs to Musica. I can't remember the guy's name, but very friendly and if he can't fix it he'll know someone who will be able to.

Thanks guys,
Wantz, I did go to musica, he's the one that told me about Grant. I'll let you guys know what he says, will phone him 2morrow. Hopefully I won't have to sell my car to get it fixed!!

Andy has had success with that kind of damage in the past. I don't want to say that he's the only guy in Gauteng who can do that kind of work, but he is worth sounding out if you want a good job done.
Good on you for wanting to see your Dad right. Bear in mind that this is unlikely to be a quick job.

Andy Mcgibbon is certainly the way to go. I've seen some of the stuff that he fixed, very good

Hi,
I got three different qoutes, one from Musica (R1700) one from Andy Mcgibbons (R3400) and one from Grant Fouche (R2600).
A friend of mine is studying jazz guitar and told me that she wouldn't take her guitars to musica as they have screwed up in the past. Andy Mcgibbons is way out of my price leaque, so that leaves Grant Fouche.
Will let you guys know whats happening.

so what news? Did you get it fixed yet?
