Hi Bob. Might be because the E is played closer to the nut and thus the strings are relative higher than they would have been if you capo'ed and played further down the fingerboard. Also might be that you use, well without trying to sound crude, virginal parts of your fingertips that dont get exposure that often, perhaps do to your hand position or playing style.
Could well be. Nearly everything I play on that song is within the first two frets, so just a little more tension to deal with at that point. That might well take a cumulative toll over the length of a practice.
But I shall not be deterred!
I would love to get some of Mr Wainwrights stuff next time I go to a decent music store. Any suggestions where to start?
I've got a few of his albums. I'm a fairly recent convert, so don't know his catalog well, but my first recommendation would be a terrific live album entitled
Career Moves. It's largely solo, but that's great because it puts the material and Wainwright's performance under the spotlight and both are very strong.
That album or the more recent
Last Man On Earth would be my recommendations based on what I've heard so far.
