DonovanB US$ or zim$?? Les Paul's are fairly versatile, you can play anythign from metal, to country on that.
Heath i would personally look at the zenox series from cort , when i was looking for a versatile guitar i decided on that and boy i was never sorry . in the $800 range maybe look at the z64 or z-custom . and you'll have enough change for a nice amp
