These things happen occasionally. The important thing is the way the claim is handled by the company - and Maxmusic came through with flying colours.
I recently had some ebony knobs from Luthier's Mercantile (www.lmii.com) go missing. Not only did they immediately ship me more- but they FedExed them so I had them within a few days. So they spent probably $75 to get me replacements for parts that cost $7.65 - I'm seriously impressed. I've had similar good experiences with Stewmac and Amazon.
BTW, if anyone finds Elixir strings cheap from a store that will ship outside the US (Elixir doesn't allow this to protect their distributors), please let me know.
Once again, if anyone wants to order in bulk from http://www.juststrings.com
, let me know. They charge $35 for any size order, so the more strings you order, the cheaper the shipping per set becomes. Their prices are good:
Ernie Ball Slinkys are $4.59 (R41.86)
D'Addario XL $5.96 (R54.35)
D'Addario 3 pack $13.99 (R127.59 or R42.52 a set)
D'Addario 10 pack $39.99 (R364.71 or R36.47 a set)
All the Rand prices above include VAT and are calculated at R8 to the US$. Don't forget a percentage of the delivery. I'll probably order at least two dozen sets next month, so it's already down to about R1.66 per set and the more we can assemble, the cheaper that becomes. A big enough order and we may even be able to negotiate an extra discount with them.
For other prices check out their site. They have strings for everything from Autoharp to Zither and everything in between. Plus they have brands which are difficult to get locally (for instance: I use Savarez classics, Rotosound Steinberger bass and the odd set of half rounds for fretless).
