Oh Keira...

...thought you might be interested in this.

I just discovered the new Roland Mobile Cube. Weighs in at only 2.5KG, and pretty small 280 X 108 X 177 mm (W x D x H). Only 2.5W, but stereo into a pair of 4" speakers, so may well be louder than you would expect. Kind of handbag-like, with strap handle an' everything... It got a very good review in the UK's Guitarist mag. Retail price is 139 pounds in the UK.

It would be best to test it out first.
The Guild looks very nice though....

Alan i have been aware of them fo ages hehehhe you know i google "battery powered portable PA's ..." on a regular basis.... if i recall they are only 5 W .... and if they sound anything like the "street cube' which is also cute looking and light .... will be too underpowered for actual busking .... but i agree it will be a great thing for personal practise .... or hotel rooms..... but being acoustic i find such a low wattage too low..... to warrant not just playing acoustically .... think they benefit electric players or keyboards ... to make em as loud as acoustics....

Alan i still swear by my USA made (yeah mine is an original one ..new models made in taiwan...) 30 W crate taxi battery amp.... which now is severely road tested.....and holding up supurbly .....

and which is big enough to do a gig with in soft restaurants.... and sounds 100% natural..... short of an AER i am a crate taxi convert .... and will perform my gig on sunday lunchtime at Zahava's restaurant in NOrwood (see events if you in jhb and can come to it ) with just the crate amp .. no PA ...in a courtyard and it sounds perfect ....

btw if anyone knows of anyone selling a crate 30 W Taxi amp i would be interested in a second one.... i'm that impressed...

but thanks Alan for the heads up .... one day i'm sure they will make my ideal amp..... a 100W battery powered amp with multiple inputs all weighing in at 9 kg well 7.5kg would be better but i'm not unreasonable.... heheheheh and of course that can reproduce the nylon as accuately as the crate or AER .....

It's good that I'm slow off the mark for once - keeps me humble. ?

Don't underestimate a stereo 2.5W amp Keira - double the volume of a mono amp, which would take about 25W to achieve from a single mono amp. Speaker efficiency is another factor. Not saying it will be enough for your application - just don't knock it before you try it.

Keira-WitherKay

point taken Alan.... Will try it out .....

but i did try the street cube which is also in stereo and 2.5W + 2.5W and aimed at buskers and i did A/B it with the crate and the 6W line 6 portable amp..... the roland street cube has a thin sound that self compresses at just a notch or two louder than acoustic guitar volume..... not natural sounding either ...sounded like a cheap transistor radio....

i was truly disapointed cos it is light weight and i thought it looked cool and was on paper the answer to my traveling needs..it had reverb onboard and multiple inputs.....

.and i spent a few months waiting in antiipation since it's debut at nam show i think the year before last .....to try one ...and was sadly disapointed.... the line 6 portable is on a par ....with the street cube...i recently tried one again at marshall music and the same conclusion .......

so this roland looks like the same thing but even in a more compact casing

Get out a tissue and sit down for this - they are discontinued ☹
For quite a while now.

A guy was selling one on gumtree a while back and after a bit of negotiation he fell off the earth. I was prepared to pay him what he wanted, but he never replied ever again.

I have never seen one in a music shop. Cool thing is that the battery lasts for a few good hours

Here are the specs:

And a schematic (hint matta cough hint hint!)

Keira-WitherKay

hello ....wow look what i found... AND YES I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ONE 1ST

an inventive and highly creative 18W battery powered amp that weighs in at only 1.7 kg and gets raved about in guitar player magazine and even has les paul vouching for it........

in my quest for a light weight battery powered amp that still sounds natural( lots of battery amps out there ...and they light but most do not sound good or have substantial power to busk with... my needs are not for a practise amp for my bedroom ) THIS IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.....

COS AT THAT WEIGHT I CAN BUY 2 USE IT IN STEREO ...GET 18w /CHANNEL (NOT 2.5w LIKE ROLAND) AND GET SPREAD COS BEING 2 AMPS I CAN SEPARATE THEM IN PLACEMENT ...... AND STILL IT WILL WEIGH ONLY 3.4 KG WOWOWOWOWO

BUT HOW DOES IT SOUND?????

HAS ANYONE HEARD ONE...... THE REVIEWS ARE ALL THOUGH THE ROOF.....

BUT I SEE ONLY ONE ONLINE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT COMPANY CARRIES THEM APART FROM THE MANUFACTURERS ... THEIR WEBSITE OFFERS YOU TO BUY DIRECT BUT AT INFLATED COST $200 NOT $149 LIKE THE INSTRUMENT SALES SITE..... 2 MODELS ON OFFER THIS IS FOR THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONE WITH A WIDER FREQUENCY RANGE

ok so now Alan ...... you the go to man in this....... have you seen one heard one... the guitar player review said 1995 ....???? and i have never seen one not even online till google popped it up last night......

is it cos the revelutionary design has put people off....it's built into a plastic builders T pipe....

anyway get back to me..... on this ...i'm keen but again very skeptical to buy blind.....

Aja hope you read this too.... you also looking for something like this....

OK. I'll let you get away with it if you start using caps at the beginnings of sentences. ? (Baby steps Alan, baby steps.)
