? Epic fail!
Still, in my books, the Selmer Tenor Sax ad takes the cake. Here's something a musician friend (& saxophone nut) of mine had to say when i e-mailed him.
Brand new Selmers retail for around $ 7000 - 9000 at the most. The reference models go for about $ 13 -17 grand roughly. The AS series are even cheaper (although they say Selmer USA, they are actually made in China).
This particular model that has been advertised could be the 1948 super action by the looks, and their prices vary wildly as there is no defined way of dating old saxophones (besides using pictures etc as reference and contacting the company directly). Also being a restored instrument, who's to say that the guy didn't strip down a new selmer or some other make for that matter, age the parts and use those parts to restore it (fact is that Henri Selmer Paris have stuck to their traditional methods of manufacturing albeit with a few modern twists so modern parts could be very similar to the old ones). Seems quite dodgy in my opinion as something like this in my opinion would have to go through people like Christie's or Sotheby.
In reality, depending on the condition, i reckon it can fetch anything between US$ 4 k - 14 K (at the very most). Now if he was selling the Selmer Benny Goodman clari, he would probably get about US$ 80 k (just my guess). He's dreamig if he wants 130 k for the sax.
