Who's your least favourite guitarists?

I know we have quite a few best of lists in this forum so how about we do the opposite for a change. Who are your least favourite guitarists of all time?
Here are a few of mine just from the top of my head:
- That guitarist from Linkin Park - ive just never been wowed by his guitar works
- The guitarist from System of a Down - Once again his guitar works just dont impress me
- Avril Lavigne - too much posing too little playing
- Katie Melua - She's got an absolutely amazing voice which she should just keep on using and leave everything else for the band to deal with.

The idiot from Green Day and a some locally famous bands featuring guitar players (read, punk rock posers) who can't play if their lives depended on it..and get hailed as guitar wizards by local magazines.

I take my hat off to each and every 'guitarist' that gets up there and does it - each one of them is better than I am, no matter what they play. They got off their rears and are doing it, for a living nogal.

yeah do you guys realise you ripping of guitarists who have made millions from playing guitar .... hehehhe and most of the names i see are globally famous.... errrrrrrrrrr what am i missing ........ how can you slate them.... surely you realise that you won't like some players but no need to slate em.... lol especially since most people posting are not exactly world standards guitarists in their own right....

i know i know we all have opinions... but why is it guitarists have a love of shooting down other guitarists.... jeoulosy /ego i have no idea....

but i gues the new age hippie in me can't see that ........

you all know i'm a purist in acoustic scene but i would never say some thrash metal guitarist is crap cos i don't like their style or music.... music is art .... in any style shape and form........

and if you can bang out 3 chords in a way that excites the world and sells 100 000 cd's ..fabulous and blessings on you ...

why does it always seem that guitarists want everyone to be a virtuosa.... and yes there is room for that.... but hey anyone who cracks it on the scene... has achieved a huge feat ... that most of us here even if we pro muso's will never achieve.... so celebrate that

and so ends my lesson on peace and harmony amonst guitarists..............

For me, less has always been more. The catchy riffs of punk rock in particular. It's not about a singular guitar either, it's about the end product for me and the emotion conveyed therein. If three chords can help create that stir, I applaud it.

Avril Lavigne.. she plays guitar..?! Well, I'm not too fased about that.. Shes still hot as hell, and can be in my band any day.. :-[ (yes, I do listen to her music.. it's quite catchy)

As to bad guitarists.. hhmmmm, hahaha, I know a few.. One of them tends to stare back at me in the mirror each morning. But Keira is right, some of these 'bad' guys have made millions..

As to who grates me.. well there are a few, but it's just because I don't like the style.. As musos they are good, as to if I'd listen to their music.. nope.. *hint, hint, Steve Vai and his mates*

Both SOAD and Green Day are more about the music and meaning behind them flashy guitar
playing.

Sometimes it is more about the overall music than personal glory and limelight.

It doesn't mean because someone is famous he is a great guitarist. His lead singer friend might be good looking or have a decent voice and then by default he gets famous too. My least favourite guitarist is based on how a dread a certain kind of genre. Just like some wouldn't like symphonic, melodic and progressive metal, I despise punk rock, bands like Blink 182, Sum 41, all the bands that have numbers in them LOL. I respect them for being great entertainers and making more money than I'll ever see, but I don't respect them as guitarists as I would respect a guy with the name of Joe.

So my opinion is solely based on the fact that my ears can't stand MOST punk. I kind of like The Offsping, won't buy the cd but won't turn over my car if it starts playing on the radio.

I meant no offence to your preference in music Spyke.
+1 with keira (i personally feel that the world could do with some flash guitar players who make millions).
Maybe the reason that talented guitar players (or musicians in general) don't get recognized is because there isn't a market for the kind of music that they want to play.
Bottom line, i wish people's understanding and appreciation of music evolves a little more, to the stage where we wouldn't be listening to
music that was based on market surverys and music trends etc etc.
I actually liked stuff by the Clash, Ramones and the sex pistols. Its this new age "trying-to-sound-angry-but-not-doing-a-good-job-of-it" punk that i have issues with.

No offense taken, just having a laugh with you. ?

I like what I like and respect those that have created something I like ('cause heavens knows that's not easy - ask any of my ex's).

I too am anti some of the newer "punk" bands - Good Grief Charlotte, My Chemical Peel etc... but I still commend them for getting up there and doing it.

Punk rock has been criticised alot due to its lack of technical complexity, but at the end of the day, all that matters is whether the music connects to the people or not. In my opinion, if a song does not make me go...Wow that sounds really good from the first minute, then its just a crappy song ?
