Hmmmmmmm....What now......???

Need help again....... I have a small problem.....my wife is GAS-sing for my new ARC300.......Cheeky if you ask me... ? Anyway, she has compared my ARC300 against her AFS75 and she prefers my guitar. In short we may want to get rid of the AFS75 and here's the dilema. 1. Does she get the same guitar as me.....boring as there will be two identical guitars in the house... 2. Look at another LP type of guitar....ALA Ibanez AR250. This is not too different from the ARC300 anyway. 3. Look at something different such as a Fender Tele Squire. In looking at option 3...we would have two distinctly different guitars (1 x LP type dual HB and 1 x single coils) in the house that are both reasonable guitars and thereby have more tone choice...I have always enjoyed the sound of the Tele. If we look at option 3 then what I want to hear from the forum is: 1. The general feelings on the Squire Tele as I see a fair number of then here on the forum. What model of Squire Tele is the best value? 2. What upgrades/mods have you done to yours to improve the stock squire Tele and how did the results turn out? If you have any other suggestions....dare I ask....please fire away....

It actually has solid gold frets too...

The SuperModel was commissioned by Reverend Willie G aka Billy Gibbons (for those who might not know ?)

Glendale’s Billy Gibbons Strate-Plate, solid gold frets, a vintage Lucky in the neck pickup cavity and a “hand-rolled” in the cable channel.

Pretty cool Tele if you ask me ?

Tom go have a look at a few guitars. You can only decide when you have them all in front of you, and play them. Good luck and let us know what you decide! I love GAS!!

I see the pricelist on the fender site is the 2007 version, not very helpful.

Tom what is your budget roughly, I believe there is a BIG budget jump form a Squier to a Fender.

I'd advise you phone your music shop, get a price on a Squier Standard Series Tele, an Squier Vintage Modified Tele and a Squier Classic Vive Tele. Then get a price on a Fender BAJA Tele and a Fender Standard Tele and see which one suits your pocket and how much that pocket can stretch! ?

CDee wrote Well Tom, Tele's are fantastic guitars. Go to Music connection and talk to Jacques. He'll help you out nicely and give you good discount.

Hey CDee...Thanks.

I know Jacques quite well so he will the man I'm gonna be talking to.

He has sold a JM Strat to one friend of mine and a Deluxe to another from our church....so I think he likes me......

A twist to the tail........

We went to Music Connection last Saturday with the AFS75 to get a value on it for a Tele.

The guitar tech there suggested we first do a full setup on the guitar before making any decisions about selling it.....turned put to be a wise suggestion.

We had the full setup done to make it "nice and comfy...." Got the guitar back on Tuesday and.....OH WOW.....what a difference. The action is nice and low....no fret buzz anywhere and tone and sustain heaven....also stays in tune with the Bigsby. Mariann has fallen in love with her guitar and does not want to change it.......ended up as R450.00 well spent.

The only problem now is how to get rid of my Tele GAS........Help....

Mando Silva is at Music Connection these days, and he is a great guitar tech. A while back he did a set up on my Morgan and, like you, I considered it money well spent. He also did a set up on a Squier Tele that I used to own (gave it to the brother-in-law last Christmas) and again he did a fab job.

Maybe letting him do a setup on your current guitar will make it play so much better that your GAS will be assuaged.

For a while.

There's only one cure ? buy a tele.

I'll save you the trouble - don't bother. Korean made (not Mex as the ad states) and my single biggest disappointment with Fender in recent years. It all looks very nice on paper, but in reality they are very inconsistent and construction quality is iffy at best. Even the wood looks nothing like as good as the pics. For a guitar dubbed "Lite", they are overweight boat anchors.

Tom.........only one solution..........go get an MIA Tele, does'nt have to be a top of the range .......GAS gone!!!! 8) (For now, at least......... hahahahaha.......)

TomCat

Although I'm Gassing for the Tele....I'm actually Gassing more for a Laney VC-15 at the moment. (A lot cheaper too..... ? ?)

TomCat

Man...I think I was in trouble from the moment I woke up this morning.

I was listening to "Third Day" on the way to work and the sound of those guitars got me gassing for a Tele again.

I pop into Music Connection lunch time for some strings and decided to have a look upstairs in the guitar section.............BIG MISTAKE

This is what I saw....

New American Standard Tele...Clear Ash body and Maple Neck/Fretboard....

OH MY FREAKING HAT....I NEARLY DIED......I got heart palpitations......I almost had tears in my eyes........I'm not going to be able to sleep for the next few weeks......I'm Doomed.....

Dirk

Nice finish ?

TomCat

The pictures above do not do the guitar justice.....In the flesh it is just absolutely amazing...... ?

CDee

Very nice! Go on Tom, treat yourself a bit!

AlanRatcliffe

Do it! I would...

That's how a tele should look IMO. Just change to an ashtray bridge and a few small bits here and there.
