Need help again.......

I have a small problem.....my wife is GAS-sing for my new ARC300.......Cheeky if you ask me... ?

Anyway, she has compared my ARC300 against her AFS75 and she prefers my guitar.

In short we may want to get rid of the AFS75 and here's the dilema.

1. Does she get the same guitar as me.....boring as there will be two identical guitars in the house...
2. Look at another LP type of guitar....ALA Ibanez AR250. This is not too different from the ARC300 anyway.

3. Look at something different such as a Fender Tele Squire.

In looking at option 3...we would have two distinctly different guitars (1 x LP type dual HB and 1 x single coils) in the house that are both reasonable guitars and thereby have more tone choice...I have always enjoyed the sound of the Tele.

If we look at option 3 then what I want to hear from the forum is:

1. The general feelings on the Squire Tele as I see a fair number of then here on the forum. What model of Squire Tele is the best value?

2. What upgrades/mods have you done to yours to improve the stock squire Tele and how did the results turn out?

If you have any other suggestions....dare I ask....please fire away....

I'd say for for the Squier Tele. I have the Standard Series, and I believe it is prolly the best value for money. I won't buy any of the lower spec models.

I have since upgraded my bridge pickup, which didn't sound all that different to be honest, but it does come through at times, and when it does, oh man what sweetness! Mine is a dedicated slide guitar though, and all the other mods was done purely for slide playing.

I don't see the point of having two LP style guitars in the house unless you are both fanatical about them. Do your experimenting with different styles while you are still content with the lower end of the price spectrum ?

I'd say the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster '50's.

I used to have a Squier Standard Telecaster. Apart from a fret dress and a Seymour Duncan in the bridge, it was pretty much stock.

Tele is the way to go.

I have one and it rocks, but it might one of those factory mistakes...........

I have seen some squier tele's going for about R2000 - R3000.

What about getting one with a maple fretboard? then you have some variety to go with the ibanez rosewood fretboard. just an thought.

I'd go for the standard or affinity series.

No use duplicating instruments, even if you have more than one player in the house. And I agree single-coil is the way to go - Strat or Tele.

+1 on the Classic Vibe. Vintage styling except where it counts - frets and fingerboard radius. Pickups are surprisingly good, which is usually where the cheaper guitars fall down. Pine makes a great body wood for a Tele - some of the early prototypes were pine and a few custom builders use it by preference.

If you wanted to spend more money, I'd point you to the Fender Baja Telecaster - one of the best Mexican-made instruments and the best Tele I have ever owned.

@ Alan....Roughly a price on the Baja. I remember a review you did on it and was very positive.

The AR series are very decent, I own a 300 me'self. But I'd have to agree with the others - variety is better.

I see the Standard Tele goes for about R8K. I presume this is also a MIM Fender and not MIA.

I'm not sure at the mo - it has varied between 10K and 12K lately depending on the exchange rate. Fender also put their prices up in Feb - I see RRP is $1390, which means +/- R16K retail here (ouch!).

Which is still the 2007 price list AFAIK. ??? Maybe if we started demanding prices based on those "advertised" there, they would finally update it.

two of the same makes no musical sense.

I have been gassin' over a John Bolin Supermodel tele for a while too. Going to make my own replica in the months to come.

Isn't she lovely? You have to love the simplicity of a Tele!
