I just got offerd a Combinator 1. I was planning on building a TRUE BYPASS strip, but according to what I've read this does that and more. Has anyone tried one of these and what's your opinion on it.
I know Carl Martin pedals are excellent, so I'm guessing this should follow suite.
JoeyBones
I got this of his site. These comments are based on the combinator 2
Please Notice:
The Combinator is primarily designed for Carl Martin pedals, but can also be used with other pedals with low impendant output (BOSS, - Ibanez, - DOD i.e.) some older effects and wah pedals are high impendant output, these requires a low impendant converter, or a low impendant pedal in series.
The 9-Volt taps are hot on the ring (Boss, - Ibanez standard)
Always press a program button, before connecting it to the amp, all the loops are activated after power has been taken. If one or more of loops 1,2 & 3 is used for external switching, and a pedal is in either one of the loops, that loop is activated when the external switching is engaged, say you use loop 1 to shift channel on you're amp, and you know you will use a specific pedal every time you're on that channel, you can place that pedal in the loop.

Hey Joey,
I was cruising music shops today and ran across a Carl Martin Combinator II at Musica (Instrument store not the CD place) at Atterbury value mart. Didn't see a price but thought you might be interested.
Rob.
JoeyBones
Thanks Rob.
I'm still not sure if it's what I want. I'll try to call them today to get a price.
Off the topic, but does anyone know of a place that sells perspex cheap ?
AlanRatcliffe
Perspex? What for? It's too brittle for pickguards, etc. - use ABS plastic or a similar, more flexible plastic for that.
Cape Plastics in CT, but as with most perspex suppliers, it's only cheap if you buy a big sheet of the stuff. If you're looking for smaller quantities, try any signage shop as they will have smaller pieces (or be willing to cut some off for you).
JoeyBones
I'm thinking of using it on my pedalboard. Kindoff like a Pedaltrain. I've seen a few done out of perspex and it looks wicked. All depends on how much it'll cost.
AlanRatcliffe
I'm guessing you're thinking transparent perspex? That would be quite cool. Maybe put a few blue LEDs inside too - pimp your pedalboard! ;D
JoeyBones
You read my mind ?
Something like these :
You have to admit, that's pretty sweet. I'm thinking of using a few perspex strips instead of a solid piece to make it easier to route cables.

In Cape Town we call that a Northern Suburbs pedalboard... you know, behind the boerewors curtain...
Ge-drop, ge-tint, ge-mag, en ge-neon! ? (just so you know I stay in the northern suburbs...)
