MR GUY
Awesome playing and recordings!!!! What gear / setup did you use for all? All the amp stuff done on the laney?
Yo, thanks for being so kind Mr. V ?
All the dirty guitars were recorded with the Lionheart, mic'd with a Shure SM 58 (without the cap) and a old Shure RS 45 (that sounded better to me so go blended a little heavier than the 58 ?) I used my Marshall 1x12 cab (it is an extension cab from the JTM45/60 with a Celestion Greenback). both mics were about 5cm from the grill, just off centre and angled at about 30 degrees, maybe a bit less.
Both mics went into my Edirol UA-25 at the same time, to two different tracks.
I used the stock Ibanez bridge pickup for all the rhythm stuff and both the neck and bridge humbuckers in series for all the lead tones (those pups pretty much suck, i've since had Gareth at Marshall Music completely rewire The RGA with a set of dimarzio Breeds, CTS 500k pots and a dimarzio superswitch, more on that in another thread another time)
All the clean stuff and the bass was recorded direct into the UA-25, the mix/master engineer then reamped the signal with his own gear. he hasn't sent me the details of what he used yet, but i'll keep you posted.
I used EZ-Drummer to program all the drums, but the mix/master engineer just used my midi patterns to trigger his own sounds as the EZ-Drummer kits i have are a bit thin for what i was looking for on this album.
I hope that answers what you wanted to know, let me know if you want to know more.
PS; there are some article, audio and video lessons being prepared, that are based on some of the solos from my album, so look out for them. ?
