So im planning to save up for some sort of metal ( must be versatile tho ) with obviously a fixed bridge. There are currently 2 contenders each with its own price tag ... Both are prestige

Really need your guys opinions, specially on the 8 string

I think the 8-string will take a LONG time getting used to. I myself have the tendency to slide my thumb over the top of the neck for leverage when bendinf. Don't know if it is a bad habbit/technique, but I won't be able to play an 8 string.

If I wanted to go for the LOW tuning stuff, I'd start off on a 7string. But if you want to get into that kind of advanced playing get the 8. To quote what Dino Cazares said on the Road Runner All Star Session DVD about Andreas Kisser "Yoo don't need to toon low to be heavy", adn then he did it anyway. LOL.

You dont need to tune low to be heavy ...... you just buy a guitar with more strings ? I love that roadrunner dvd!

The Jeff Waters solo on I think The Dagger is still my favourite solo to date. An 8string is really versatile from what I've read.

I have enough trouble with 6 strings and now you wanna complicate the issue with 8 strings ..... sounds like fun

I reckon there are better Ibanez's out there. what about Mick Thompson signature 7 string? although the word 7 across it is annoying and defines it as someone else's guitar.

Munky has a cool 7 string. Apex2 is cool. I played one and it is a very heavy sounding guitar and easy to grind on.

Spoke to a friend, 8 string sounds like a bad idea, too huge neck, cant find strings readily in this country, costs a bomb.

So its then a 7 string, who makes good 7 strings? I want a prestige grade guitar but i don't want a floating bridge i.e. munky's

How about the Schecters? I have never played one, but there is some really nice looking 7string Schecters.

Schecter make some very nice guitars (I played a mate's C-1 Classic and enjoyed it) and the C-7 would fit - it's a looker in the Hellraiser or Blackjack series too.

ESP / LTD have very tasty gear - you'd be after the Horizon or Viper 7s.

If you're after a good 7 then have you considered the Music Man John Petrucci model? Music Man are underrated by many, but make good instruments.

Its a solid guitar, no nonsense, great craftmanship at a very affordable price (for a Prestige)

Love the neck and the Gibraltar plus bridge , super comfortable , even for long hours of playing

Otherwise the ESP option mentioned sounds good too ?

Wantchaz, i'm not a huge fans of schecters. their build quality is somewhat lacking, ive played on some of them before and they unfortunately just don't feel good.

Inflames, jacksons really rock, but man, those V-shapes ( i.e. the RR ) is an awkward guitar to play sitting down.

Banditman, the ESP guitars are good, i know their budget stuff doesn't always sound and play too great ( i had one ), but their in the running.

Mr Bryson, yeah i know, if i decide to go 6-string, it will be an RGA ? but it will then have to be tuned to D with thicker strings and then ill drop it to C when i need/want too.

My main thing for a 7 string is that you get some insane low tones, its really heavy. Listened to the ibanez 8 string, that F# string is insanely low. But 8 strings might be too much!

Excuse my ignorance, but why not just get a baritone? Or would you like to maintain the high E sting?

I want to keep it too something standard in a way, i know seven or eight strings don't really comply but they are still just normal guitar at the high strings. I want something powerfull to riff on and still be able to do some shredding on the same guitar.

I know, thats a cool guitar, im a bit of a guitar snob, once you've played a prestige your kinda hooked, ask mr bryson! and that one is not a prestige ☹ And then the Apex1 which is a prestige, has a lame tremelo u-bar ☹

I know that the weir shaped Jacksons play weird, but you get the hang of it after a while!

I have found that playing guitar while sitting down is one great way to pick up bad habits!
Acoustic is fine sitting down, but electric is just one of those stand and play things for me ?
