Good Stuff

Neil Young - Decade. A compilation issued (how did you guess?) after he'd been recording for 10 years. Some great stuff from the mid 70s. Also some Buffalo Springfield tracks.

A very good compilation indeed. Had a vinyl version years ago, was spread over 3 LP's.

June Tabor & The Oyster Band - Ragged Kingdom
I don't know much about Tabor and her oeuvre , but she popped up on the latest Martin Simpson CD for a stunning duet on "Strange Affair" and the critics have gone universally singe merde over her two releases last year - one in her own name and this reunion with The Oyster Band (of whom I know even less).
The backing is pretty powerful at times, soft at others, but it's Tabor's voice that continually catches your attention. She's a very convincing singer.
Tabor has the same attitude as other greats of the English "folk" scene (Simpson, Carthy, Waterson...) IE they aren't snobbish about what they sing and they don't stick to the Child ballads and such. If they think the song says something they think is worth singing then they sing it and they're not going to waste time fussing about how old it is or if it's "folk" or not (I have a Martin Carthy DVD at home. I don't know about the interviewer, but I was certainly surprised to hear this stalwart of English folk say "my god! The Sex Pistols were good!"). Here Tabor takes on songs by Joy Division and PJ Harvey.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Haven't heard this one for ages, lost it on vinyl about 30 years ago. Picked it up at the Hillfox Flea Market on the weekend for R79.00 for a brand new copy.
Worth a visit as he has some real good stuff.
Could be their best Album!

The Scorpions - Virgin Killler
I had bought this in 1976, and thought it was a 'killer' album especially the opening track 'Pictured Life'
Still sounds good in 2012, it was quite innovative for 1976, Uli Roth was a monster player.
The cover caused quite a bit of controversy, even though I bought the imported album at Hillbrow Records, it had the alternative cover.
