What tune in your playlist/radio are you listening to currently? I'm digging Danzig so far.

This Album is a 2011 release and it's a lot better than I expected. I stopped listening in the mid 70's when David Byron left. The current vocalist Bernie Shaw has some serious lungs. Trevor Bolder is good stuff on here as well. Almost a 70's sound with a modern production...

I don't know why, cause I'm not feeling particularly aggro, but lately I've been getting into this band. Some incredibly heavy stuff, and I actually like how particularly jarring and digital the tone is - This is a perfect example of a band that honestly wouldn't sound right if their mixes were more organic, in fact in past they've said that they tried recording using valve amps and they actually preferred the tone they could achieve using PODs. Rhythmically it's also pretty jarring, I like to describe it as uncomfortable but in a good way ?

Watching Pink Floyd in Pompeii

Powerful

There is a section where they are talking about the gear they use, especially the synthesizers and Roger makes this quote ' Give a man a Les Paul and it won't make him Eric Clapton...." How times have changed

Careful with that Axe Eugene is on now.....

Been wanting to get hold of that on DVD. Watched the Echoes bit on the YouTubes and it's pretty awesome. Such a great visual backdrop for their music.

That gear section sounds cool.

I've been going through my collection and hauling out things that look neglected and unlistened to. So today it's Ashgrove by Dave Alvin. I like it more than I remember. Great bar-room blues playing. Greg Leisz produces and adds guitar parts, so there's lots of good playing.

Well, I always listened to Dave Alvin with the Blasters. And somewhere in this very thread, you mentioned Dave Alvin and this very album of you you now speak and I said he of the Blasters? and you said aye. and I got it and I got many Dave Alvin albums since and will continue to do so as long as they get produced. And for this I am grateful. Thank you Bob.

There's no way to delay that trouble coming every day!

I haven't listened to that album for years now.

Tom Verlaine - Songs and Other Things

One of the most interesting players around. Has a strong, distinct musical personality. Great lyrics too. Some beautifully rude electric guitar sounds.

And now Tom Verlaine - Tom Verlaine

It's the way the morning is flowing.

There's a big attempt here (starting with the album cover) to make Verlaine more commercially appealing. The record label rejected the original and bought Bob Clearmountain in to mix. But I can't see that it's all his fault - Verlaine co-produced and some of the cheesy keyboard parts turn out to be his handiwork.

BUT attention getting lyrics, his vocals are better realised than they were in his Television days, and there's some marvellous soloing. Verlaine's musical character is so strong that even the attempts to commercialise him can't smother it.

That's the one of the two albums of theirs I gave a bit of a miss (the other is One by One) . Dunno why but it never really appealed to me.
