Nice one Psean - been listening to Frank Turner a lot recently
His stuff is pretty cool. I find it interesting that he was in a hardcore band first.
I believe so - never heard them though. He reminds me a lot of Billy Bragg

I haven't heard them either (Million Dead); I think it'll be interesting to listen to them to hear where he came from though.

Curtis Mayfield - Move on up (gotta love a killer horn section)
Curtis Mayfield - Here but i'm gone (off New World Order)
Steve Miller - Bingo (Great tasteful playing from Miller)

Peter Case - Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John
I'm actually not sure what all of this has to do with Sleepy John Estes, but I quite like it. Case seems to me to be operating largely in the tradition of American socially-concious troubadors (Joe Hill, Woody Guthrie etc). There are guest players on several tracks, I need to read the liner notes and refresh my memory as to who they all are.

Threat Signal , A Canadian melodic Death Metal band , with a song called Fallen Disciples. :bopping:

Richard Thompson - More Guitar!
A live set from 1988 with Thompson in especially fine form on the Stratocaster. Great backing vocals from Christine Collister and Clive Gregson. Fab rhythm section of Pat Donaldson and Kenny Aaronoff.
Warren
Richie Kotzen's latest album, 24 Hours, crazy player, and multi tracks most of the instruments himself.

I've really been enjoying the debut solo EP of the much overlooked and underated second guitarist of Animals As Leaders, Javier Reyes, it goes under the name Mestis "Basal Ganglia" and it's fast becoming one of my favourite releases this year. Plenty of beautiful music and he happens to use an 8 string and rather well at that so their are plenty of rather big lush sounding chords, in fact it's mainly chordal and fingerpicked, very different approach but I am digging it hugely ?
Here's an official preview of the album:

So far this track really sticks out for me, love the chordal work ?

The Beatles - Rain

Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
I've listen to it approximately a gazillion times but this time Kim Thayill's very unshreddy, spaced out solo on Slaves and Bulldozers jumped out at me. It also struck me how different Jesus Christ Pose is from just about everything that got lumped under the "grunge" label - they really have some variety. Man, I hope the new album lives up to their previous ones (waiting for Christmas for that one ? )

The Band of Joy DVD led me back to that band that Robert Plant was in all those years ago. So this week I've given spins to III, Houses of the Holy and especially IV. I find it hard to say anything at all (pro or con) about "Stairway to Heaven". It's there. It's a huge monolith. I always liked "Misty Mountain Hop" more. What suddenly struck me is how well Sandy Denny fits with Plant on "Battle of Evermore" - that's a great performance. Bonzo made such a great racket. Irreplaceable.
Then this morning I woke up in a mood for some ear-candy pop. So I went for the purest ear-candy of all. Yes... you guessed right. Abba.

100 Ton Chicken - Chicken Shack
On the subject of keyboard players (I would luv to have one in my blues band but sadly not finding ☹ )
Way back in 1969 after the lovely Christine Perfect left Chicken Shack to join Fleetwood Mac they included a replacement by the name of Paul Raymond.
Here's a little sample of what he brought to the band... ( still one of my favourite guitarists is Stan Webb :bopping?
