Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters - Live in London July '12

Reportedly recorded on one night only, that night being the first gig this particular band played. Part trip-hop, part blues revival, part Zep riffology.

Plant's solo career has now run much longer than Led Zeppelin did, and for me it's got increasingly interesting and especially since the Page/Plant reunion. This is a rock god who is aging gracefully, staying vital and interesting and whilst his live shows often nod back to his fabled times with Led Zeppelin there's always a new spin on those numbers. Plant's not one for the same old same old.

James Walbourne - The Hill

Walbourne is better known as a sideperson - having worked with (amongst others) The Pretenders (in their latter incarnations) and Jerry Lee Lewis. This is his only release under his own name so far and he shows that he's more than just a (very good) guitar for hire with confident vocals and well crafted songs - many of them located in his home patch of Muswell Hill, London. That's the same part of London that the Kinks and Fairport Convention emerged from.

Phil Ochs - There But For Fortune

A "greatest hits" (not that he had many) compiled from the recordings he made for the Elektra label. Boy this stuff sounds old now, largely because of his very plain, very clear, utterly unaffected vocal style. A lot of the songs sound like museum pieces, but they may just be sleeping. "I Ain't Marching Anymore" was dusted off and sent back into action during the George W Bush era.
