David Byrne and Brian Eno - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
This raises interesting questions about creativity and inspiration - or can if you let it. It make substantial use of sampling, not just for colour but for lead vocals and even song ideas. But it was was recorded at a time when digital samplers were not available. Byrne and Eno "collected" voices from various sources - talk radio shows, field recordings, records not available in the USA or Europe, even an exorcism - and then married them to tunes they recorded in the studio. They had to use two tape recorders and vary the speeds until the tracks matched. Well... sometimes they had to see what vocals they could match with which tune. On some tracks the speed and pitch of the vocals is very obviously changed, but it all seems to work.
A groundbreaking album in it's time, but debates about it's influence rage (apparently).
Sound very interesting. Will check this out some time for sure.
