The worst instrument ever conceived?

Dare I even call it an instrument?! I think not!

What I'm on about here is the VUVUZELA and it's use at soccer games. I simply cannot watch any of the confederations cup games with the sound on due to the constant blasting of those confounded things! I hate them!

It seems I'm not the only one, there are some European football teams (eg Spain) as well as commentary teams and non-African fans that are calling for the banning of the dreaded vuvuzela to prevent their usage at the upcoming world cup.

Are there any others on this forum who agree with this sentiment?

Surely FIFA and the SA government won't let a simple plastic 'instrument' spoil all the work that's gone into putting on this tournament in the last few years!

Some moron thinks its funny to blow his VUVUZELA at 6am some saturdays. I Hate it, and you know what Dogs hate it too. If someone has to blow that thing in the street ill put my dog onto him.

I dont think that its the vuvuzela as much as it is almost every one blowing one.
At cricket you hear it every now and again but in soccer its is a constant drowning mush. Maybe they should restrict the blowing to certain periods in the game

I thought I'd spoil myself to a nice comedy last night which is our local soccer team and watch the game (They won, it was still hillarious. We must be one of the most embarresing teams in the football world IMHO). That noise gets old within the first 2 minutes? Sometimes you can't even hear the commentator although admittingly I didn't want to hear sometimes as the dude was making more noise than said excrement (I'll withold details).

Last week I watched another game and the noise just stayed constant when one team scored a big goal? Like wth? If the 'thing' were used to exclaim excitement and happyness like after a goal is scored I would have been all for it, great being souf afreekin and all? But aaaall the fricken time?

Bann it and get done with it!

I remember being in the departure lounge at ORT international in 2005, a mate was jamming my guitar and I was playing tunes on the Vuvuzela. We attracted quite a bit of attention. Sounded cool too.

No Matt, gotta disagree. I find that the pipes are stirring. I think that these plastic bugle bitso sheet are supposed to be but they like stir me in the wrong way. I remember many years ago at our rag parade, I was on such a plak and wandered right thru PMB with the pipe band. I dont follow soccer but you want to watch your country play but each time I go to the television and try it just grates me too much.

I've heard people saying that the vuvuzela is a part of Africa that you can't take away, almost as if its some sacred relic! What's more, Coca-Cola incorporates the vuvuzela into its advertising campaign posters for the 2010 world cup. When I saw that I knew we were poked.. Oh well, here's to hoping that the vuvuzela is the most embarassing thing that happens to us safricans during the world cup.

I went to the Italy vs USA game, it was like sitting in a beehive for 90mins.
