Ok guys.

This is my brothers x band that broke up about 4 years ago, These 3 songs were recorded at the national school of the arts and the recording isn't the best so just bare with me here. I got permission to upload the files. Let me know what you think of these songs. I still want to try and get them back together.

I can't download them. The file host keeps me waiting 60 seconds and then when I click on the download link, makes me wait another 60 seconds, and on, and on, and on. Does anyone else get this?

ok, the bands pretty good

Not bad. Some good potential there. Made me crank it up to listen to it properly. Good, strong melodies. Ambitious vocal harmonies for the music genre (although not always executed perfectly). The music itself is varied enough to stay interesting for the duration of the 5+ min songs.

I like the touches of keyboard, which immediately elevate things above most heavier bands, although the sounds are a bit mundane (stock Roland patches?), and don't always fit as well as they could.

On the downside the drummer sometimes overplays when he should scale back a bit - he tends to fill the space left by other instruments during the quieter stuff, when something simpler would suit the song better. He's mostly a solid timekeeper though, which is the important thing.

My biggest problem would be the lead vocals, which suffer from pitching problems. The vocalist also pushes his voice too much at times - he doesn't do the screaming well - or the shouted "call and response" stuff (what do you call that anyway? I hear it a lot these days). Overall his voice is decent, if a little mundane. I suspect he just needs to work at developing his own voice, rather than emulating his influences.

Nice to hear a guitarist who isn't just trying to show off his soloing skills. Guitar tones are mostly good, I particularly liked some of the cleaner ones, but the difference between the clean and the distorted tones is a bit extreme at times - I'd probably mellow out some of the distorted tones and get a little hair and brightness on some of the cleans.

Thanks Alan

I know the drummer plays complicated beats in a lot of stuff he plays. The drumming is good but in some cases the simple stuff sounds much better than complicated. A lot of musicians mainly guitarists, drummers
tend to make them selves sound good and not the music(YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN). A lot of the most famous songs written are based on the 3 chord theory. When i started playing guitar i use to jam with my brother(the drummer). All i new then was the e,a,d Maj chords. On the most simple RHYTHMS using the 3 chord theory
he just use to play these complicated beats which didn't blend in to the guitar.

I agree with you on the lead vocals where he tries to hit these high notes with the type of voice he has.

The Chorus on track 2(Africa)Doesn't sound so good. Theres guys with the high voice and deep voice which don't blend in to one another. Also at the end of this song and track 3 where he screams(that death metal type of scream)shouldn't be there. Wasn't necessary for this type of music.
