which spidervalve

ok so here is a new problem. and I need help please ? After this discussion was posted: http://www.guitarforum.co.za/reviews/marshall-jcm900-2x12-combo-2502-mark-iii/msg36109/#msg36109 ...I took the advise you guys gave me and checked the Spidervalve. Really cool and looks like I am definitely going for that [according to online reviews]. (not 100% sure but at least a solid 90%) Now a new query arises!! If I were to take the spidervalve, which 1 should I take? The 2x12, 1x12 or the head? Here are the cheapest prices I could get: 2x12 - R10400 1X12 - R8899 Head - R7000 (although I will have to buy a cab here as well!) Each one has it's pro's and cons of course! Yes i know that I will have to go and play on it 1st but hey, you guys have helped me so much so far that I would really appreciate a response. I have also found that (in certain stores!) shop assistants will tend to push you towards a specific instrument that they have since they want the sale and they want to move it of their floor for new products. I also tend to be a impulsive shopper so eg. I will go in to buy a spidervalve, but I will walk out with a "pavement special". thanks!

Now the ELECTRIC USA AMP's are simmilar to these. But they do differ, almost the same as the old early 1970's Marshall's differ from the same era HiWatt's.

hey guys... i just read the thread now and i'd also like to comment on the spider valve...... i heard about this amp last year and was really thinking of buying it for myself, at the time our guitarist was working at a music shop and they had one there..... i read some reviews about but had to check it out myself....
i felt that it sounded way to digital and lacked that old schools raw valve sound. that amp is cheap for a reason and if u tap on the pots u hear a hollow sound as the materials used were not really good (so they said on HC) another thing that i think to keep in mind is that there is alot more that can go wrong with an amp like that (more parts etc on the pc board) and i would not like to hear the cost of repair if something did or even if it can be without replacing the motherboard....

i am not really a fan of the whole multi effects processor thing although i did own one but i do see its value in the market, but through my years i have rather thought of getting quality rather than quantity....
i am not really trying to slam the spider valve, i am just saying that its the same concept as having a multi effects processor..... its good if u have a budget but in tonal voyage have moved away from those things.

I hear you loud and clear. however, I have had the amp for about 3 weeks now and i dig it a lot. before buying this amp I had a podxt and I am even using that with the spidervalve. Of course if I had R65000, I would start hunting for a mesa boogie since that to me has a brilliant tone. however i don't. I must admit, I check out randall and nearly got me that. I play in 2 bands. One is post hardcore and needs a solid metalish tone. the other is a experimental band and hence, i need a amp i can experiment with. yes there are othe rbrand and i am not going to list them (otherwise I will go off on them as well ?) but the spidervalve did it for me.

what I would like to know is what would you have done? Just for interest sake. this is why I joined this forum, to learn!

i think i would've gotten a new fender hotrod..... line 6 is to new in the valve market and thus i don't think i would trust them.... i would've looked at a name brand that has been on the market for a while.... even looked at the fender selling for 8500 on GT looks like a sweet amp even though its a silverface. dude u can't go wrong with fender valve amplification. every one i have played through has sounded good (clean channels) the dist is a bit shocking but if a amp has good clean tone then just add a good pedal to it.
i owned 2 JCM 900's but recently sold them to fund a Ampeg SVT3 pro stack and a Mesa dual rectifier which i'm looking for now, gonna keep the other. i owned the 100 watt head and the combo.... the drive on the combo to me sounded better than the head and the head's clean tone was the best clean i've heard on a marshall for some reason.... i boosted the drive channel with a zakk wyld pedal dude and that thing sang ozzy erea wylde tone dude...... the combo was good on its own but if u added a bad monkey dude u would've been more than a happy chappy.....
i would've even considered getting an amp built for the price as i don't really worry about playin a homemade amp....lol... as long as it sounds good.

My one cousin has the Spider Valve 100 head and i was pretty underwhelmed by it all !

I truely expected sooo much more.
And there is deff nuffing "insane" about that "INSANE" channel.
Thought it was gonna blow my sox off . . . ermmmm, NO ! (not even the Mussugha [sp?] pre-sets)
The more Blues'y channels is OK, but i prefer the Bassman channel of the Fender Super Sonic 100times over this Line 6 product's various Blues-like channels.

For my hard earned moneys, give me the new'sh Vox AC50 head over this modelling valve head any day !
