nick_D01 hey again all (ie. alan) ? i'm experiencing some intonation woes with another cort of mine (g200) :'( : the 6th/low/bass 'e' just wont intonate. i've manage to tune in all the other strings just fine, tho with the low 'e' if i take a reading at the 12'th fret the note is quite sharp, even with the saddle at almost maximum adjustment 'away from the nut'. should i remove the spring in order to get the saddle even closer to the bridge lip (ie. away from the nut)?
AlanRatcliffe My first suspect would be the string itself - especially if the problem is only on the 6th string. Strings with uneven or damaged cores or kinks in the winding often show up symptoms like this. Also, it's quite possibly "Stratitis" - when your single coil pickups are too high and the magnets pull the strings sharp. If so, you'll notice it gets worse higher up the neck, showing up on all your wound strings (and maybe even your G), and at some point even single notes will be "beating" (the pulsing effect you get when two notes are nearly in tune, but not quite). Experiment with lowering the single-coil pickups (especially the neck) and see if it helps. The only other possibility is the nut is damaged so that the string is leaving the nut from further back than it should - that makes every note on the neck sharp if you tune the open string to pitch.
nick_D01 hey alan thanks as usual for the (super quick) response. i'll run some tests with the tips you've given and see what comes up.
nick_D01 hi alan took your advice and tried out a new 6th string and it turns out that was the snag. everythin intonating just fine ?
