My parts have arrived!

Just visited a friend who's out from the States to say hi... and to pick up my parts which I got him to bring out for me! You know what its like when you are just making idle chit chat and want to blurt out " Give them to me!!!"

So eventually he did, so I now have my new black tele pickguard, black control plate and black knobs for my Squier.

Then for my Les Paul - a Grant from the 70s - I have my black tailpiece and bridge, new toggle surround, a black output plate, new black tuning machines, black strap buttons, white tophat knobs and white pickups with black pick up rings! Guess what I am doing tonight?

I'll take some before and afters and post them soon.

Okay, so I spent last night working on my guitars - first the telecaster, and although I just need to take it in somewhere for a minor tweak as the gap between the holes on the coverplate I bought was bigger, heres the general result (if I managed to get photobucket to work...)

As Alan called it, my 'stealth tele'. Obviously need to get some black screws for the control plate and sort out the otherknob, but what do you think? Ideally would have liked to have got a black bridge and saddles and a gloss black neck pickup, but I was already spending so much on parts for my Les Paul, so those will come in time.

So to the LP... a lot more work needed to be done on that and will need to take it somewhere too for help with changing the bridge and tailpiece and adding the new pickups - as the Killers sang (sort of), "I've got soul, but I'm not a solder". As soon as thats done I'll put up the pics. Cant wait to play the baby - had it for more than a month!

That does look very cool. The reflection made me think you'd broken the pickguard for a moment though.

For a true "stealth Tele" you'd need to make the bridge a black one too as well as your neck pickup cover. ? Like these "gothic" guitars they are selling now. Cool look, but not very practical in the often low light situation of a stage though - sometimes you need to reach for a control quickly and the extra half second taken to find it can be make-or-break.

For me, I prefer having the contrast of leaving the bridge and pickup cover chrome though - in fact I would probably have left the control plate itself and the pickguard screws chrome, while changing the knobs and saddles for black ones. I might also try the chrome knobs with the black plate.

Thanks all - really happy with it, and Alan, I'll try those suggestions and see which look I prefer.

Since you're only using one pot (nothing wrong with that) you put the volume pot in the tone pot's position and then reverse the control plate so that
a) you have good access to the volume pot
b) the selector switch is well away from your right hand

Even if you're using both pots you can swop the pots and reverse the plate and the volume pot is now further forwards. Works for some folks.
