Tool

Busy listening to Tool. Thought I'd find out what the general opinions are about this band on this forum.
I think they're really great. Awesome ideas, original and clever.
Love Keenans voice!

Favourite album?
Lateralus.

Tool is one of my altime greats!

I would have to go with Opaite as my favourite album. After that Lateralus!
I wonder if they have a DVD out, would love to see the band live!

I found the band in 1998, I saw this weird looking cover of the Opaite CD and it was on sale (R30 bucks)!
Best deal ever, and from there I was hooked ?

Tool Rawks..... amazing what Adam Jones can do with Drop D tuning. My favourite album is Aenima.

Frans-B--Cocq

Tool is one of the best bands around... my favorite album is Lateralus.

Tool - Lateralus and Aenima

A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms and 13th step

Would love this band to come to SA

Don't like Tool, they don't do anything for me personally. A Perfect Circle however is awesome. I love the mellowness.

A Perfect Circle's Emotive works for me, covers yes, but it's probably the coolest "Imagine" cover I have ever heard

Dirk

I didnt know much about them until a friend introduced me. Such a brilliant band, haven't heard anything like it

Yeah, that cover is brilliant!

While I do appreciate Tool as being brilliant musicians and I enjoy listening to them from time to time, I have one gripe with them... their songs are too long!!! Dangit!! In SA we get 2 hours a week of metal on MTV (Superock and Headbangers Ball) They have a very limited playlist, and when they play Tool songs it literally takes up a quarter of the program ??? Some of their songs must go up to like 15 min! Most bands who write lengthy songs shortern them for their videos, Tool obviously doesn't believe in that ?

Tool is definitely one of my favorite bands. They've been influential in my lyrics and music. Maynard has an amazing voice and man can Danny Carey play the hell out of his drums.

JK

Tool are great. Some interesting timings, awesome drums, and not the usual alt rock style stuff.

A Perfect Circle's Emotive works for me

Hated it! Each to there own, but i found it insipid, bland etc. This is a band that wrote amazing tracks like 3 Libras, which is amazing. Oh well, each to there own taste i guess. ?
I just found i could easily off myself after listening to it.

Tool is the business man. This band is truly a magnificent, well oiled machine. Each piece to this machine is essential for it to work properly. This is one of the few bands i know of that would absolutely not be able to replace any of the members. Every album has an amazing message, and if you love music that can teach you about yourself, about life and about people then Tool is for you man.

My favourite album is there last album, 10000 days (released in 2006, i think).
Anima and Opiate are also killer albums. Im not sure if you have seen any of their music videos, but if you haven't , get your hands on some. They are killer.

Have you listened to A perfect circle? Maynard, the lead singer from Tool is also the lead singer in A perfect circle. You might enjoy them as well.

Any way happy listening dude!

Tool is in their own league! Brilliant!

By the way, a colleague told me the other day he's in the mood for something like Tool... Does anyone know of a similar type of band? Except a perfect circle, of course...

The Narrow, has some Tool influence. There is also Porcupine Tree, umm Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed you black emperor.

There are similar bands, but nothing quite like Tool that I know of.

Quite the opposite. If you watch the Schism vid, you can notice that it's actually two songs, Mantra and Schism. Took me a while to note, as I had always thought that Mantra was just the intro for Schism. Then I noticed the missing track on the CD. ?
Plus, The video for Parabola features both Parabol and Parabola.
