Bob-Dubery
Hi all
I received this via e-mail yesterday. There may be some takers on GFSA.
Professional writer and rock enthusiast Michael Waddacor, is preparing to launch a regular and serious, subscription-based ezine on rock music this month (June 2009). He needs to expand his mailing list and widen his network of contacts. If you are interested in receiving more information on his envisaged rock ezine (no strings attached), please email your contact details (email address and phone number) to Michael ASAP (main email address: waddacorATtelkomsaDOTnet; backup email address: michael.waddacorATgmailDOTcom) with the words "New rock ezine" in the subject box.
You need to substitute the "AT" and "DOT" in the e-mail addresses.

After reading Bob's post, I let Mike Waddacor know I'd be interested in the e-zine. I also notified a number of my friends, musos and non, of the prospect.
Well, looks like I was one of only 17 to do so.
I remember the earlier thread about a possible GFSA magazine. Here's some idea of the potential RSA market attitude.
I trust Mr Waddacor won't mind me copying his e-mail herein:
Dear Friends in Music
I sent personal emails last Monday, June 1, requesting everybody I could – close friends included – to please spread the WORD that I intend to launch a serious rock ezine, the first edition of which I have already researched and written. I asked everyone, please, to pass my message on to as many of his or her rock-appreciating friends and family members as possible.
My idea, supposedly, was clear and simple: To get as many as people as possible – around the world – to send me a blank email with the words “New rock ezine” in the subject box, in which case I would place their names on my initial no-strings-attached mailing list. I would then use this mailing list to distribute the first two or three editions as free samplers during June and July. Ideally, this plan would enable prospective subscribers to decide whether my ezine was useful and worth buying, while I, too, could test the market (remembering that this is a numbers game).
In 10 days, however, I have only received 17 – I repeat, 17 – requests from around the world from people wanting to be listed on my initial mailing list. Besides those few people who, inevitably, are either too busy or too reluctant or lackadaisical to pass the WORD on, I am forced to assume that there is far too little interest, if any, in my planned ezine.
Therefore, I have decided – after almost 100 hours of painstaking and devoted research and writing – to nip my concept in the bud (or is it butt) and completely abandon my idea of producing an ezine.
To those precious 17 good-hearted people who did “ask” to be placed on my mailing list, I have already sent you each a personalised thank you email. Once again, thank you sincerely for your valued interest. Please accept my sincere apologies should you feel inconvenienced or disappointed in any way.
Perhaps there are far too many good rock magazines and rock blogs out there – or, perhaps, in the spirit of down-and-out blues, “I am not your man”?
With appreciation and kind regards
Michael Waddacor

I was in on it too. So that's four of us just from here. Perhaps Mr. Waddacor is being a bit premature? After all it takes time for word to get around - and I suspect many would wait until they have seen an issue or two before giving out their email addy. Expecting something to be an overnight success before releasing even the first issue is perhaps a tad optimistic.
Also, to be honest, a "paid for" e-zine is a bit of an anachronism with all the quality free info available these days.
