How many times a week (or day) do you play on your guitar? ?

i try and play atleast 4 hours a week , if the kids let me of course. when i was still playing in a band i would play atleast 8 hours

I Play every day, but it's usually just messing around.

I have purposed to put in an hour a day of learning , I am just working out what I actually want to learn.
IMO it's better to play everyday than every other day.
My Kids also are demanding, but I have a strict 20:00 bedtime curfew for them. Give the wife some time and then when she goes to bed at 22:00 I can get to my music room and play. :?

I try to play (almost) everyday, even for just an hour or two, more like two! Like Squonk says, family time with the boys is crucial. Eli's time, 3 times a week for an hour only!

If you have dreams of "making it", then you have to do what Jimmy Page did......8 hours a day......no compromise.....hahaha!

I personally cannot play soft when I'm jamming!! Unless I'm doing something "constructive".

I also have a "wierd" ritual, no day goes by without me "touching or wiping" every guitar!!! Like saying "good morning and good night" to my kids!!! Hahahaha ? ?

I play 2 hours min each day, focus on 3nps, 16np2strings legato, picking patterns, directional picking, alternate picking (3nps 4nps), 5 string sweep picking root 1st and 2nd inversions of major and combining it with relative minor and that usually takes about 2-3 hours with a metronome.

Not very much lately ☹ used to practice for at least 2 hours a day with a metronome. Now I just jam when I have some time... maybe an hour every second day. This will change in the holidays though!

I play every day, although I don't follow any real routine. Most of the time I plug into Guitar Rig and play with earphones.

Depends on a number of factors - most notably how creative I'm feeling, whether I have gigs coming up or whether I'm watching/listening to/reading about some of my favourite musicians as inspiration. If I have gigs coming up then I'm usually working out any kinks in the set, rather than just messing around to find something new, so the practice type will differ. Lately (as a short answer to the question), every day for at least two hours...

Wish I could play 3-4 hours a day. Sometimes I slip away from work just to go home and play for an hour or 2. Unfortunately, todays life has become so hectic, you literally have to MAKE time to play

mmm well as a pro muso i get to spend all day with my guitar most days.....

so prob at least 5 hours a day of time with it on my lap and working on it..... and thats even on days when i gig which would add another 2 hours (i ussually do 2 x 45 min sets)

and yeah i do goof off and spend a day shopping ..... but i have to be disciplined enough to do it only once a week.........

but hey it's all for the love of music ...so it's not even a chore to rehearse.....

but i must say i do respect players who get to play well despite the day jobs they do.... cos they must either be such quick learners or be burning the candle at both ends to get the rehearsal in....thats more dedication i think than being pro and having 16 hrs a day to fit in the 5 hours ....

so respect ......

I try to practice at least an hour a day and play another hour.

Obviously, its not always possible, so I'll at least "tokkle" for 30 -60 minutes each day while watching tv or whatever. Its best to set out time for decent, focused playing. 30 minutes of proper practice is much better than hours of just playing away in front of the TV or PC.

I play daily, between half an hour and 2 hours a day. I don't practice though which is a bad thing. Started slowly converting all the songs I can play to playing them with alternate picking. It's like re-learning everything. Worth it though.

I try and play as much as I can. The thing is, it depends if I'm comfortable playing around the people in the house. With my granny being here, I only play when her and my mom go out...which is rare...maybe once a week...twice if I'm lucky. If I do happen to play guitar while everyone's at the house, my granny keeps on checking on me and talking to me...which I don't quite like...
But I must say, there are times when I get a real itch to play guitar...but it's normally when everyone's at home. So I just try and stay cool until my mom and them go out...then I play. ? :?

I play AN instrument everyday for at least 2 hours a day.. But it's all about what I want to get down at that time.. As of late I've been spending more time on drums and bass.. But next week it's the turn of guitar and piano.. So it's just a thing about what I aim for when I play.. But I also like nick, enjoy to sometimes, plug in the guitar and just rock out.. In my case not Vai but Hendrix.. But I'm a bit too pale, tall & bald to be a Hendrix Tribute band frontman (I'm not going to even touch the subject about having the talent of actualy playing it right.. Guitar playing in any case is all about the image ? )

Lol, I used to practice in my room and if anyone walked in I'd stop and wait till they left.

Nowadays I try get at least 2 hours a day but its difficult. My wife talks to me all the time while I practice as well so I try encourage her to do something else at the same time. She says she likes listening to me which also bugs me. especially if I am trying to write. I HATE getting suggestions while in my creative zone, "why don't you do this," or people pull faces if it doesnt sound right... AAARRGGHHH!!

oh, I also have a guitar at work. I get here an hour early so I use that time to run through my reading skills (coming slowly) and if i have quiet time during the day I play a little in the office.

a mate suggested I make a practice journal so I can record how much time I get in each day to see if I am meeting my goals. Its a very good idea.
