Compressor / Sustainer

Hi All

We are looking at expanding the old pedalboard again.

This time a compressor/sustainer is on the cards.
What have you been using and how have you found the performance?
What are bad eggs in terms of performance and to be avoided?

Further to the above.....any good/bad comments on the Boss CS-3....?

Apparently the CS-3 responds well to mods.

Has anybody done a mod to the CS-3 and are there any Mod kits for CS-3 available in SA?

I'm not really a compressor fan, but the CS-3 is known to be very moddable. Speak to Matta or, if all else fails, Google Monte Allums to buy and import a mod kit.

I Think I will get the CS-3 and a mod kit from Monte Allums.

I will also do a before/after review as well.

I have a CS2 (prev boss model ~1986) which I use at the moment. I only use it to brighten/even out my delays. I don't use it as a sustainer at all really. Took me a while (with some forum help) to get to grips with it tho.

I haven't tried the CS3, they are apparently quite different tho.
The classic compressor would be a MXR dynacomp, but IMO they're a bit overpriced in SA. I was planning on building a clone, but then happened on the CS2.

The question is what do you want a compressor for? What do you want to achieve/change in your rig?

I would think you would only get mods overseas, e.g. Monte Allums or Indy Guitarist. Matta should know. ?
I'm sure if you google you'll find some mods you could do yourself if you are handy with solder, but the question then is why buy a pedal to mod it if you can get something stock you will like better anyway?
Fix the cause, not the results I always say!! ?

hey man. I find the dyan comp is by far for me the best compressor. it small and easy to use. I use mine in a post chain so that is give my drive some punch. if you going to stick it pre you can get more sus out of it. I've used the compressor/sustainer before and it great but sometimes you just want something simple to use. another great comp is the trex comp nova. pricey but worth the bucks ?

I've decided to wait a bit and get Matta's Orange Squeezer when it comes out. In no rush at the moment.
