Manfred-Klose Does anyone stock it locally? Found this site where you can buy it online: http://www.wammiworld.com/
deanBailey I can give you the number for the guys that built my guitar? They bring them in for the clients that need 'em.
Manfred-Klose It's cool, just been wondering if it is available at local shops. If i ever need one i'll probably buy it online.
cain Ive read some reviews in Total guitar, they seem to be incredible. As far as i know, you don't get them in SA, their speciality stuff which our shops never sell i.e bareknuckle pickups and all that. Don't they come standard with a detuner allan?
AlanRatcliffe Kahlers are cool. They were the only real competition for Floyds in the '80s and in some ways they are better than Floyds - string height stays constant at the bridge when you use them, they have flat models that need no routing and models that will mount on a Les Paul, they are better sounding and they never licensed them out for other people to make, so quality is always high. Where Floyds won out in the "Trem Wars" was in the licensing, which meant that everyone was making them, including cheap models. Everyone who was making one for their own guitars was pushing them as "better". Floyds also return to zero pitch better than the Kahler (the rollers sometimes stick on a Kahler as they get old and worn or grunged up with sweat and dirt). They don't come standard with a detuner though.
Frans-B--Cocq I see, sounds cool. What about the nut? If it causes problems, wouldn't it be possible to equip the guitar with a locking one? Sorry for ignorance. I've never really been the trem user. :-[
AlanRatcliffe They use a locking system already. I'm not sure if the new ones are the same as the originals (they stopped making them through the '90s), but they had a string lock that went on the headstock behind the nut. The Floyd nuts are a bit better in design - easier to change strings, but the Kahler's sounded better. So lots of guys used to replace the Kahler string locks with Floyd lock nuts.
cain I would think its worth having one a kahler as long as you understand if it gives hassles its always gonna be a lengthy process to get it fixed. Alan, i didn't mean a detuner standard. But as far as i know you can get one fitted, not sure about floyds. Alan is right, even tho ibanez and schaller floyds might be good, you get some prize crap out there ... I would rather take no floating bridge instead of a cheepo ...
AlanRatcliffe Francis Viviers wrote Alan, i didn't mean a detuner standard. But as far as i know you can get one fitted, not sure about floyds. There's that EVH thing for Floyds. Don't know anything about them, but I've seen 'em.
Frans-B--Cocq Crap. Now that I looked around for Kahlers, I noticed how cheap and easy to install they are and all that. I'm playing with the idea of installing one on my RGR...
