Guitar playing mindset

Hi guys My company sent me on a course about cognitive dissonance and unlocking ones true potential last week. If your wondering why I am writing this, is because its been a revelation to me. I've been wondering for some time now, why can't I progress in my guitar playing, why can't I be as good as such and such, and obviously ... why does people with less talent than me play so much better than me. According to the course I did, its all because I didn't understand how my mind works. The first step in being great at anything is to believe it. For a long time I've been very modest about my playing and when people give out compliments I would disagree with them, saying that I have a long time to grow. People and schools teach us these bad habits from a young age and we go with it, thinking that believing that the mindset of I'm not the best and i have to work harder" will drive us in some way to become better. Well IT DOES NOT!!! The first step in becoming the guitarist you want to be, or being anything to your true potential, is to believe that you are great! There is no such thing as "I Can't" or "I'm not good enough". The way cognitive dissonance works is to believe you are as good as you want to be, and you will drive yourself to get there. This does not tie into The Secret, even if it sounds similar. A part in your brain, controls you to do as you believe. If you don't believe you can, you will never do. So guys, go out. Believe you are a great guitarist, and see how quickly you progress!

heheheh yeah but the word argument is WAY TOO strong... these kinda posts are opinions.... and hey everyone has one as they say hehehhe

so yeah it's just great to see another persons approach to a similar problem, i don't think anyone is trying to be a winner as in a debate or argument ... cos lets face it in music things that work for me on a pro level might not work for the next person... we see that over and over....

so yeah sharing experiences is what we do here ... hopefully not arguing hehehehh I HATE ARGUING heheheh

Actually, theres no reason to sway either way. Keira and i are talking about two totally different sided, my original post was not aimed at gigs and live playing and showmanship. Hers is, and in the end both goes about believing in yourself ...

funny that, we watch impressive musicians, and are impressed by what they do, yet we (or I) don't try to impress when I play... hmm?
