Another 1st Pedal Board...

Thought that seeing some new pedal boards are showing up I would also show my first attempt and a pedal board and what I learned from the experience

Anyway.

Made the board from a piece of offcut chipboard. Painted it black with blackboard paint (nice and thick paint that covers the chipboard well.

I then covered the top of the chipboard with self adhesive felt to provide a surface for the pedals to stick to.
The bottom of the pedals have self-adhesive Velcro attached to them which attaches the pedals to the felt.

The power supply is a Shure 15V supply used for powering radio mic receivers (I just happen to have had a few spare ones around).

The silver die-cast box is a 15V to 9V converter/regulator to bring down the Shure supply voltage to 9VDC. the 9V converter also provides power distribution to the pedals. the Shure PSU delivers 600mA so there is plenty of juice for the pedals. All the pedals are super quiet, no hum or noise (even with the SD-1 at full drive gain).

Some lessons learned:

The felt turned out to be not a good idea for two reasons: 1) The Velcro doesn't stick too well if you lift a pedal to reposition it. The Velcro lifts the felt fibers making the felt "Furry"(Hope that's spelt right). 2) I used self-adhesive felt. the adhesive backing goes gooey after a while and the felt creeps across the chipboard. For the next board I will be using Velcro for board part to improve the attachment of the pedals.

I will use a larger piece of board to provide more space for more pedals etc.

I will add a spacer to the top half of the board to make accessing the stop switches of the rear pedals easier.

nice, I shall be learning from your mistakes ? I bought self adhesive velcro and just plan putting a few stripes across so that I can reposition the pedals if need be.

Felt also collects all other dirt like dog hairs etc very quickly (nice furry effect but not practical).

The next pedalboard will definitely be of the Velcro-Velcro variety.

Hi,

For a cheap but really good power supply, look into a leam power brick ( 5 power output ) or if you can find one in SA a visual sound power spot ( can power something like 20 pedals ). The visual sound does not use any space on your board so it rocks!

My whole power supply only cost about 200 bucks as an experiment so losing equivalent to a pedal space was a small sacrifice.

What is nice about my PSU is that it is super quiet (certainly quieter than any multi effects I have heard anyway).

matta gave me a url to a local company that makes 9v PSU's up to 5amps I think, ranging from 1,1.5,2,2.5 etc. I was going to get the 2a one just to have some 'bandwidth'. think he said they retail for around R120excl. cant find where I saved the url though, I sent it to manfred not too long ago, maybe he has it.

They do, but everytime ive ever asked them about the power spot they always seem to say "its being shipped". Must be a crap ship, since its been shipping for 3 years ... lol

Well it had to happen..!!!!

OK...Who took my image....

Had a small GAS attack (Very Small) and got a volume pedal (Thanks Keira) and decided it was time for V1.1 of the pedal board - Here's the new layout.

I took the Felt off as it was starting to get really goooeeey......

Will be getting Velcro tomorrow morning....

OK. I have completed the upgrade to the Pedal Board.

Here it is.

The Velcro option worked out a lot better than the felt used in the original version.

I also added a small lip across the rear of the board to protect the power leads to the pedals.
Rubber feet are also added to the bottom at the rear to tilt the board slightly up at the back.
The two rear pedals are also mounted on timber strips to raise them slightly higher to make switching easier as well.

I am very chuffed with the final result. ? ?

Very neat and tidy, nice job. :yup:

Nice to see the small cable ties to bundle the cables together. Not the most practical but neat nonetheless.
